I am pretty sure that it was originally a seude (textured) satin finish, but I don't have the details.

The 1970 PPG paintbook (for the Challenger) lists it as: Ditzler 9324
(reference: http://pantherpink.com/chartsg.htm?load_img=3)

The 1971 PPG paintbook (for the Barracuda) lists it as: Ditzler 9388
(reference: http://pantherpink.com/chartsg.htm?load_img=17)

I hope someone can shed some light on the difference between those two codes!   :clueless:

Rudy,
I do not remember for sure so....

If your AAR has the A62 Rallye cluster with the blue interior the column should be blue as well.

If it has the standard guage cluster the column should be black.

I tried using the Ditzler 9388 code to get some PPG paint made but they no longer have a cross reference for that paint code.  Basically they told me that because that was an original lacquer paint, they don't have a formula to make it in modern urethane paint.  Has anyone had any luck having this paint made up?

I've heard a few different rattle can paints are really close to the original.  However, without a hardener it always seems that rattle can paint is not nearly as durable as real automotive paint.

yeah, I have the standrd dash..so it is black... mine is a non-rallye car.

I will let you know what Dupont says about a possible cross reference on the Ditzler #..

If you have a Glassurit supplier nearby you can get some of this.

You might check with your local paint supplier.  I find that most of the better shops here around Detroit still have paint charts for many years.

I did find the chart on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-CHRYSLER-COLOR-CHIP-CHART-DITZLER-PPG_W0QQitemZ270049147886QQcmdZViewItem), so they are out there.  Good luck!

I used the black interior paint from Year One - seemed to match pretty well - I'll get you the part number if you need it.
