Photos Request - Aftermarket Seats
« on: March 16, 2007 - 03:17:39 PM »

I am considering putting after market seats into the 'Cuda. I'm not a big fan of factory seats, they're not the most comfortable things in the world. I left them in Lucy to be correct and keep the factory look. My 'Cuda build will basically be a mild "G-Machine" and I'm wanting something similar to the photo below. Being a non-#'s car I could care less about being correct.

I like the idea of being snug in the seat and being able to adjust myself forward more than 3 cogs and get my feet setup perfectly. I'm real anal about my pedal reach and arm width from the wheel, has to be just right. You have to feel comfortable, right?

Who has aftermarket seats in their cars?  What type? Basically looking for some ideas and who's done what.

Cheers,
Carl

Hi Carl,

It's hard to find many examples in E-bodies, but I'll post all the various pictures that I have.  First here are what I'm putting in my Cuda.  These are Recaro seats out of a 70's BMW.  They are very comfortable and the side bolsters hold you securely... well at least when you're sitting in the car in the driveway.   :D  The leg extension is adjustable and they have "infinite" tilt adjustment where you turn the knob to set the angle (unlike most OEM seats that only have like 3 or 4 tilt positions).

I know these are Porsche seats, but I don't know what year and model they are from.

Here's some misc. pictures that I had stored on my computer... I don't know anything about these seats.  I do like the white leather seats in Matt Delany's red 71 Hemi Cuda, but I don't know what kind they are.

Mate........you da man!  :worshippy  Those are great examples. I myself prefer the non headrest look so from outside the car it doesn't look too "different". I'll definitely be going aftermarket, I know that much.

Hey Carl, I like these seats, they can be bought at Summit racing...and they're not too expensive.

Hey Dave, thanks mate. They look good, the ones with out the sew lines. I won't be buying from overseas, NZ has a hug range of car parts so I was basically just looking for suggestions. Shipping o seats from the USA using Express is like buying 2 sets lol. I've actually found some nice local Recaro seats, very well known brand. I don't like the look of the full out race bucket seats, they look too much for E-Bodies unless you're running 7's with roll bar and no interior items. Thanks everyone else......can't wait to get this project to the install stage.....still months away yet.  :-[

Below are the seats local to me. Not sure if I'll keep the headrests or have it low back.
The last photo are the Recaros in Joe Regans "Sick Fish".

Those seats in Joe's car look great!

The recaro seats look great carl, I like the style...I think they were a lot like the seats that were in my Subaru WRX....if so they're comfy and functional.   :2thumbs:

I think they're exactly the same as Joe Rogans seats except that haven't been recovered yet and obviously the headrest were done away with. Same stomach hugging "handles", height, style. I like the look of Joes for my car, just with normal style seat belts to maintain that innocent street car look.  ;)

Yeah I agree.... in fact the procar Elite seat without the head rest would look a lot like the Sick Fish's seats.  The headrest should come right off.  I know on the Recaros I have you can take the head rest off.

Please post some pics whenever you buy some seats and get them installed.

Thanks Travis and everyone else for your help. I have since decided to stick with the stock seats but get my interior guy to do something "new age" with the squabs. He'll have some ideas. I'll also be adding a tilt column from flaming river and a 6-way seat adjuster so comfort and seating positions will be twice as good.

Thanks once again,
Carl

Check with these guys. Very nice seats in custom widths, lumbar supports, tilt, etc. Also available in a multitude of colors in vinyl, leather, suede, insert colors, etc. Basically custom seats that you spec out.
