BFG'S on Backorder
« on: March 17, 2007 - 08:53:59 AM »
It's time to replace my tires and wouldn't you know it the radial T/A's are on back order. (Nationwide I believe) Anyone in the know have an idea when they will make another production run for the 15" 235 & 255 60 series?

Any recommendations on another brand. I don't drive in the rain, just the usual touring around on the weekends. I am leaning towards a softer rubber compound as the last set got too old to be safe and they are only 1/2 way worn.

Last time I heard they no longer made 265's, 255's and a couple of other sizes.
Simply not enough demand for them. Dunlops are a nice all round tyre.

Back in the early 80's everyother commercial on the LA radio station was, " get the wide wide T/A radial now on sale at the Supershops".

Now it sounds like many sizes will be dicontinued. :dunno:

Any other sizing recommendations for a 15" x 7" wide rim? I have seen other members using 275's on the back. 60's or 70's,I'm not sure.

Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s are available in those sizes and look (and perform) better, IMO.

There has been a lot of buzz on other sites about BFG being discontinued. How these stories get started is usually fueled by back order status on certain sizes. BFG has published comments that they are not discontinuing the T/A line and they are simply behind on production on some of the less commonly ordered sizes. Back log is expected to be gone and dealers fully stocked  in 4-6 weeks.

In the mean time, there are Coopers, Goodyear, Hoosier, McCreary, Mickey Thompson, Dunlap, Michelin, and a host of others that offer various 15" sizes.  If you intnetn on getting speed rated tires, there are a couple of English manufacturers that are offering wide sizes in dot approved Z rated 15" tires. Just be prepared to fork over some serious cash if you want them.

While that maybe the case for some, I was informed face to face by New Zealands only BFGoodrich supplier.

I went to Tirerack.com and found the Firestones were rated the best in their product line. (They don't list the MT tires though). Most muscle car owners commented highly of the BFG's but they don't seem to be quite as tacky as the Indy's. Burnout's are more difficult, but heck who does that anyways. :burnout:

I can't wait 6 weeks to take the Challenger out. Spring is here and I need tires now, so Firestones it is.

Now the question is lettering out or blackwall out. Definitly the classic Radial T/A lettering looks better but I think everone is accustom to seeing that. The Firestone Indy 500 lettering is pretty bold. It would take some getting used too. IMO

We have LT Cooper tires on my wife's Expedition and they are pretty darn good. I didn't think check into them though.  :faint:

The Indy's were ordered today and should be here by Wednsday. I will post again once I get a few miles on them.

I had the Cooper Cobras before I got my BFG's.  They seemed like good tires, but I didn't like the look of the treads.

My friend was telling me about a new tire that's coming out that doesn't require air, It has honey comb like structure to it that you can see right thru it on the sides. I asked him who makes it but he didn't recall.

Oh do I need that!! It seems I drive over a nail every 6 months.  :pullinghair: I would think such a tire would give a real hard ride though.  :dunno: Lets hope not.
