Just what I need, another project. :) I couldn't pass this one up though.

I got a great deal on a 89 wrangler that was poked lightly in the passenger side. The only thing I needed to do mechanically was put in a new timing chain and tensioner. Really easy job on the 2.5 amc. Once the fan is removed, you can literally stand inside the engine compartment :) All cars should be this easy to work on.

I put a new floor pan and rocker on the drivers side last week. Yesterday I pulled the passenger side and tacked new metal on the side. The sheet metal on the passenger side came to a grand total of $23 from JC whitney. Got to love that.

The only things I need to do structure wise are get a new bolt for the front passenger body mount and get a new front passenger leaf.

As far as interior. No need to buy new carpets or seat covers, Just pressure washed the original stuff with dish soap, let dry, and dye them black with Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric dye. They look brand new now. The previous owner put a new top on the thing not too long ago..big score!

I'm going to put the Fury on hold for a couple of weeks and try to get this thing ready for the road before it gets warm here. I'll be doing some bondo work over the next couple weeks... after that, I'll throw some wheels and a single stage of white on it and we'll be ready to roll.

I'll post pictutes as I go along.

I'm planning on doing some highway driving with it so I'm thinking I'll just go with some 31x10.5 all terrain tires.

I'll need to do a little cutting on the wheel openings and swap some later TJ fender flares to get them to fit without lifting the thing but they should fit.

I couldn't take looking at the weenie tires any more :) Got a great deal on 4 Canyon wheels off a newer jeep. Got all 4 for the same price the local yard wanted for one, so that made my day I guess. Wally World had a set of 31x10.5 uniroyal AT's for under a hundred a piece.

------

I took it out to the land where we deer hunt last night and did a little climing. d**n, this thing is geared to CLIMB!!!! I swear it could go up a wall in low range. I know the 4.0 would have been nice on the highway but the 2.5 has all the power in the world down low.

Now that I think about it.... I wish I wouldn't have ran through that stream last night... Now I'm going to have to pressure wash the hell out of everything before I paint the underbody...   :swear:

you're totally right.  :2thumbs: I am putting together a few ideas on how to do it. I think I'm going to get a grill off a newer TJ and do a little sheet metal work to fill in the gaps. Shouldn't be hard at all.

Just curious.  How much did you pay for the Jeep?  I'd Love to get another one and something like this may be just what the Doctor ordered but I have no clue what older jeeps are going for now.  I haven't had a Jeep since '97 just before child #1 was born...

I got this one for about a grand. It had a few issues but they were all cheap fixes. The engine rattled like hell but a new timing chain fixed that. Sheet Metal patches for the thing are cheap since you can use just a flat stock from any hardware store. I lucked out that it had a brand new top on it too. A good tune up and brake job and the thing should run and look like a new jeep in a couple weeks. Most parts are really cheap for the thing with the exception of doors and fenders. I was kind of shocked when I saw the going prices on ebay. That's why I decided to fix mine.

It should be a good, reliable and easy to work on truck.

Love the wranglers.  Had a 98 with 5 speed that I had to get rid of when I got a wife.  I would love to have another.
