Is the wider trim for 71 being re-popped?
« on: March 20, 2007 - 08:23:22 AM »
I need new front trim for my 71. Are all 3 pieces being repopped? Do they mount differently than the narrower trim?

Thanks!

Haven't been able to find repops anywhere. With that being known you will pay through the nose for any originals. I have seen prices as high as 2K, so I hope that you don't have a four speed going to be tough to use the clutch, brake and gas with one leg.

At this point nobody is repopping these.  As Madmaxx said, they can get VERY expensive.  I had a full set (NOS Fender pieces and good used piece that could use a rechrome to be perfect) that I sold (out of financial necessity not desire to sell) for $1200.

They mount totally different.  You actually need to drill holes in you hood and fenders for the mounting studs - scary stuff if you car is freshly painted.  Best bet is to fit them on prior to any paint work.

BTW - they look awesome on Challengers of any year.  I've seen a guy put them on a 72 and it looked totally cool.

You are definately right there Gary - The are totally cool. I always loved the way the bumper appeared to go all of the way around my grille on my challenger and these remind me of that.

Yep, and there are like 2 or 3 sets on the bay right now.  Really weird how they all came up at once?   :screwy:

Hello :wave:I agree that it is a strange coincidence that several of these moldings comes on the market at once, but i think that this just what it is, a coincidence... strange things happen :scared:
I can tell you where my parts came from, my used hoodpiece was bought for me by a friend at a mopar nationals in USA last year and the nos fenderparts came from sweden via a friend where they had been since 1973 according to the date on the cardboard boxes.

A set recently was on ebay- the 2 side pieces were nos and the long piece was used and supposedly mint.
Auction ended at 2K, reserve not met.

Last year I bought a nos set on ebay- there was a 2500 buy it now price and the "best offer" option.
I offered either 1500, or 1900- I forget which, and he accepted it.

They look great on my 72.

Fanatic, I know what you mean about spending THAT MUCH on some trim pieces.  It seems crazy to me too - you can get an engine rebuilt for that much.  Wish I didn't have to sell that complete set I had but at the time I needed the money more than I needed the trim.

Unfortunately, I just have one older shot- you'll see the incorrect mirrors which I've since replaced with repops.
Last week I finally got to bring her into "cruisers", a nice nice body shop- waited 2 years for the appointment.
I saw her yesterday, stripped  down, all trim removed, she needs new lower quarters as the paint just started to bubble up, plus there are some bubbles beginning under the vinyl top.
So, as long as I'm redoing her, I will remake her in the image of my orig 71 chally that I owned way back when.

Blue interior changing to white.
Vinyl top going from black to white.
Rallye side stripes removed and an r/t stripe in white put on.
Hood blackout changing to white.

When I found out how deep I'm in with just the paint and body work, I decided to go for broke and be broke and redo the interior.

She'll be gone about 3 months.
Don't these guys watch overhaulin?
