Good news for me steve I can add a wire to pin 46 on my aem and it will send out my tach signal.

The factory PCM's have a tach so they should be able to add one to yours.

Well thats good to hear on yours.  But he said there is no way to do it, didnt really elaborate, and he seemed to be getting tired of my questions.   :dunno:

Good and bad news.  The harness place called, said he "found" the problem.  The two alternator wires that plug into it werent quite long enough when I got it, back last spring.  So I extended them about 6" or so.  I didnt stagger the splices, that was a my bad.  But I am almost positive that I used the shrink wrap on every splice I soldered.  He said that there was only black tape wrapped on them.  It does sound like me for a quick fix, but I just dont think that I would have put only black tape on them for the long haul.

A few times I even checked continuity between the wires, and I didnt get any, so I figured that wasnt the problem.  He said that he checked it, and didnt get any continuity at first, but when he bent the harness there was some.  Since the computer isnt fused, it was a direct short.  I guess.  But what I dont understand is why the first time I sent the first computer back, it was still good.  He said this new computer is fried, too.

Whatever.  I'm kinda upset, at myself, but I still dont get why the very first time I plugged everything in last summer and started it that it didnt charge.  Wires cant wear through multiple layers of black tape that fast...   ::)

I told him sure, I did it, and I need to pay for a new computer.  They at least didn't charge me for the first fried one, and they said they could use the one for a core charge.  He said he repaired the harness, and put new wires in a couple of places where I probed them.  Total $$ wasted and shipped back to me was $655.  I suppose they could have charged me for the labor, but he didnt, so I was gracious about that.

He told me that he was certain that it was going to work now.  It better.   >:(

Sorry to hear about that Steve.  At least he found the problem so you can get that truck running.

Hopefully it does work well for you, Steve.  That's a lot of money to be throwing around to not get the results you'd expect.  Keep us posted.

Well I got the harness and computer back yesterday.  I pulled it out when the temp was in the twenties, but now that it's going to be below zero for a few days, I think I'll wait.   :roflsmiley:

Well it got up to 20 yesterday, I figured that was warm enough.     Got about half of the harness installed.  It's all through the firewall again, that was the hardest part.  Now its just re routing the O2 wires, starter solenoiid, ground, and a couple other things.  If I get a lot done today I can try and start it.  I'm not going to put everything back up under the dash though, I'm just going to lay it on the floor.  I'm getting paranoid.   :sly:

Well, it did Al, victory.   :woo:

I started complaining about it not charging like what, 8, 9 months ago?  A few hundred hours and dollars later it charges.  Started right up too, that was the wierd thing.  About 3 cranks, and its only 20* here again today.  Something else must have been wrong with the system, it has never started up so fast cold.

Oh well, now I can stuff it all back under the dash and make it all pretty again.  Yay.
