Newbie from Canada
« on: March 23, 2007 - 05:17:29 PM »
Hey guys,

Newbie from Canada here...

I've loved mopars since I started caring about vehicles.
So when I saw a 70 340 Challenger listed in the bargain finder/buy and sell I jumped on it.

I drove the car for 2.5 years (even through Alberta winters)
On a side note, she would always start even in -37° weather

Winter driving the car did a few things...
1. Taught me how to deal with power and ice at the same time.
2. Taught me how much bondo doesn't swell, but bondo applied over rust does.

Well its been 7 years; a wife, house, and now a daughter have all plagued the vision I have for this Dodge from becoming a reality,
but they are finally starting to come true.  Mainly thanks to goodmark industries producing decent parts. Hopefully this year all the rust will be gone.

I've opted to do as much work on her as I can so that I have the satisfaction of knowing it inside and out.  Not just buying a ebay special and signing a check.

All necessary tools have been gathered, garage has been built, experienced mentors have been found.
Now the fun begins...

Welcome to the sight. I too have an A66 Challenger. Mine does not have rust, but I will have to replace the passenger front frame rail and put it on a frame rack. Do you have pictures of your car? I would love to see them.

Well here is a scan of a shot I snapped when I first got the car 7 years ago.
Not much to look at, but a 340 under the hood and 3.23s in the rear means she goes!

All four quarters are shot.  The trunk is solid, but the extension panels and the outer wheel wells are not.
The floor has a few pin holes in the stiffening ribs, but I don't know with much certainty how bad/good they are.

The inner fenders are swelled up badly on the flat portion above the shock mounts.

Basically rust and lots of it.

Nothing that a lot of Time and Money won't fix though.
