I hope this does come to pass. The 72-74 Cuda owners will have so many more options when building their cars.

Here is a question for you guys and this is news to me . I'm not sure what to think . A man was just telling me that a shaker off a 383 will not work on a 440 because the 440 is a taller motor . Anyone know ? :chatting:

Doesn't sound right to me at all. :dupe:
The shaker bubbles are the same for all engines, regardless of what they sit upon.

The shaker baseplates would be different, height-wise.

Let me just start by saying that if someone does make an (ACCURATE) reproduction hood, congratulations! What took you so long?

That being said, here's what I'd be looking for as a customer:

#1. Accuracey (having an NOS hood to copy is one thing, getting it done accurately is quite another).
#2. Type of steel, 99% of the reproduction parts comming in from Asia are made with the hydroforming process, this is done with resin molds and softer steel than OEM (same gauge, but dents ALLOT easier!).
#3. For those of you who care about 100% accuracey you might also consider that there were two styles, one with crush wrinkles, one without (1970 and some early 71's). Which will they be?
#4. Budget. If you already own a flat hood it's going to be accurate and made of the right steel when done ( that is if you use our kit parts and don't mind spending a day doing the conversion work) and it's likely to be less expensive.
#5. Just so you know, there is more than one vendor in the process of reproducing complete hoods, Ben is one, Goodmark is another, and I hear there may even be a third! Be sure to shop for the best one before you buy because there are bound to be differences in price and quality.
#6. Don't count on a Challenger hood anytime soon, everyone I have asked have basically said it's not going to happen in the forseeable future. Til then we (Harms) makes the only ACCURATE Challenger specific parts available anywhere at any price.

I'm sure they will sell, and I have no doubt we will lose some business to them, and that's ok with me, we still have a niche to fill if you consider what I have noted above. That being said, I doubt anyone will be getting rich selling a bunch of them. There will be several vendors fighting for the business and  since are'nt many cars left that haven't already had one added since they were first available in kit or conversion form over 20 years ago or so. They will all be fighting for a thin slice of the small market pie.

 :2cents:

True, but, it maybe a small market but there are also thousands of 72-74 cars out there.
This will open up the door to them big time. Just buy the hood, shaker kit, done. Just makes it easier.

I'm not set on buying them but I'll definitely look into to it.  If the quality is high, I'll place an order.
Having them ready made is one thing but having a superior item on my car is the main aim.

It seems to me that the thinner metal will be harder work with on those big flat hoods. They could do it with the Challenger Rallye hoods because there is lots of built in shape but a big ole flat hood is gonna sag when you sand it and kink real easy    :dunno:

I agree NZ, as a buyer I'd definately give them a look, however, your comment about the 72-74 market doesn't really add to the available market segment, those same cars have been using Shakers made from kits for the same 20 years as the rest of them have, not to mention that while less popular than 70-71 Cuda/Barracudas, the 72-74 cars actually have the lowest production numbers of them all, far from common. ;)

A agree Scott, I guess what I was trying to say is, now without having to find and make one from a flat hood the potential or possible buyers from before who "couldn't be bothered" now have more motivation knowing complete hoods are around the corner. Buy the Shaker hood then the kit, done!  :) I think your business will be fine.

I for one never knew flat hoods would be such a hot commodity. I am sure there are several others that got rid of many flat hoods. I myself always focused on R/T and sport hoods. I have saved a nice sport 'Cuda hood for many years only to find that I should have saved the several flat hoods that came and went.   :banghead: I btw really want to do a shaker on my 70 plum crazy Challenger but I dont know if I can swing the coin. I do have a couple of nice flat Challenger hoods just by accident.

Did either Goodmark or Snobar give an ETA on their hoods?

The former, I figure would be about 10 years from now. :roflsmiley:

I have a feeling neither will include the trim ring.

Not sure if you've seen Larrys post but he's seen them in person, out by fall and are exact replicas.  ;)

I still can't believe $1000.00 currently a kit to make your own out of a flat hood is close to 3 grand .

Umm...that kit you linked was the whole package.  You still need a lot of those components (bubble, baseplate, grilles, adapter ring, etc.) even with the Goodmark/Snobar hood.

Right, the $1,000.00 price tag is for the hood only, you'll still need about $2,500.00 for the rest of the parts.
