another movie, more mopars to the grave!!!

A friend of mine who helped with the movie "2 Fast 2 Furious" told me that there were 20+ Challengers used and most of them were destroyed. 

With the E-body popularity going on right now, I bet they will continue to show up and get destroyed.

Actually, my best friend's dad is an entertainment reporter (famous in Canada...well...as famous as a Canadian in Canada CAN be) and I understand thru him that MOST of the muscle cars, especially MoPars that are 'wrecked' in movies nowadays are SO beyong restoration that they would have no other uses!  The SINGLE Chally wrecked in filming 2F2F that was so rusted that there was no frame left, and what we saw was basically 4000Lbs of bondo being held together with orange paint!  The Charger in the VP remake was the same thing.  If you watch the 'rollover' scene carefully, you can see where the A-pillar is all but rust-dust. 

The cost of Mopars is too high, even for film budgets, but also, Producers are seeing the value of the cars as promotional tools.  That's why even the Nash Bridges Cuda was a rusted out '72 with the roof chopped off when they nuked it in the finale.  The originals are stil around (one owned by a fellow member!)

So take heart, and just enjoy seeing old Mopar iron on the screen, and accept that movie magic lets these rusted derilects live once more in glory...if you petition Hollywood too much, you'll be seeing Kurt Russell in Death Proof II - the killer Nissan!!

Being in South Florida and being in the old car business with a concentration on Mopars I can assure you 20+ Chellengers weren't used or destroyed.  I was able to help with 2F2F and Bad Boys 2.  It is as Challenger72 RT says.  Tarantino is a fan of musclecars.  I was told by the prop people that bought parts from me for the movie that only junkers would be used in the crash scenes.  That probably was the case with this movie.  We will see.

That movie is definitely different...   I remember seeing previews with the girl having a sub-machine gun/rocket launching leg and thinking to myself, "Man, they've really ran out of ideas when they decided to put this movie together."  Then again, Quintin Tarrentino films have never really caught my attention.  The cars they use are pretty cool, but it's a shame they ruin the MoPars.

There is another movie coming out with a Challenger in it.  It is called "Bucket List" with Jack Nicholson driving a Challenger & Morgan Freeman driving a Mustang GT500, I think.

I just saw the grindhouse and whatever trailer on tv last night, definetly saw the front of the challenger got mashed!  Good thing goodmark repops the fenders and hood now   Its only a matter of time before they make complete shells like they do of camaros and mustangs.  Wont be cheap, but good alternative to destroying originals. 

And the fast and furious movie, they had cars cut in pieces, some just the rear half, etc... for different camera angles, lots of them were cut up for that movie!

Ok, I was not there so I cannot prove it, but I know that YearOne supplied many of the parts on the cars used in 2F2F, and I was told by a reliable source who works there, that there were a bunch of Challengers used.

Year One did do sponsering.  That is why their boxes and tags are seen in the movie.  There were a few parts cars for scenes.  They didn't just go buy a bunch of Challengers and trash them. Yes, some good parts were lost.  It is pretty amazing what props can do with bodo and paint.  It did introduce the older muscle cars to a new generation.

  Any high dollar movie isn't going to care what these cars cost.think about it,even though i hate to say it,if it has mopar muscle in it i'm gonna be the first to watch it.i'm like the rest of you,i do hate to see these classics get trashed.i don't think it will end though until theres none left,thats why us as collectors have to buy them up before holly dog buys all them up.

As long as it sells movies they will use Mopars.  What would you rather see:  A blue hair doing 30 mph in a Hyundia or a guy wrestling a pistol grip shifter with his Mopars rear tires going up in smoke while he flies down the road steering to his left?
