440 starter

Pulled off my 1970 440 6pack starter tonight and the wire connection nuts were metric!     Didn't expect this.  do I have the wrong starter?  If so, which one should I have?  There is no marking on the one I have.

Still should be 1.5 hp for the starter, just a newer year rebuilt I do believe

wel the large nut will be 1/2 " which will work with 13 mm , & the small nut is 1/32 which very few people have a socket for But 9 mm works too

Guys  the nuts are 12mm and 7mm.  Could this be a newer hi torque starter?

MEK - Ya,  it is small and weighs way less than 40 pounds!     Where can I get the correct starter?  I checked EBay and - no luck.  Thanks

any local rebuilder shoudl. be able to supply the HD old style starter

I hardly ever see the good old torpedo starter on E-Bay(I just checked). I believe you can get them at a local auto parts store, but they want a core exchange in return, I think. That would be a problem here.

They probably wont require the core, but they'll charge you for it.  Go to your local junk yard. Starters like those are on everything and then you can use it as a core at a local parts shop and save ~$35.

I'm sorry I don't have a part number. It should not be hard to find an old starter though. I think any car from the 60's thru early 70's used the same starter, regardless of engine size.

all starters are not the same , the HD use a longer body something like 3.5" to 3" light duty

The longer 3.5 inch starters will cause havok with headers. Clearance issues.
