Super stock springs, need pics/opinions.
« on: March 26, 2007 - 06:36:07 AM »
Local seller is selling set of super stock springs with front hangers for 150eur which I consider a decent deal. Anyone got any pics of the rear ride height with these springs and/or opinions if they are good for street&cruising car. Springs are supposed to be these:
P3690460
Competition Leaf Spring -- Rt, 3600 lbs (E-Body Barracuda-Challenger, B-Body w/Shackle Relocation)

also goes by the name of DCC-3690460 and DCC-3690461 on Summit.

I saw couple of pics from the car where those springs were and the rear seemed to be high but I don't know if there was air shocks used etc.

Super Stock springs are designed to provide a significant lift to the rear of the car, significant being around 4" or so. This is to provide clearence for rubber as well as providing additional leverage to the traction patch of the vehicle during drag race launches. The height can be reduced by removing some leaves or by using lowering blocks.

Ok, thanks! Mayby I'll stick to regular hd springs instead with caltracks or similar setup. I'm going with normal sized tires so the space between tire and fender lip would be pretty big and probably look stupid. I don't think that 2-3in spacer to lower the rear would be good for the rear axle and suspension geometry?

2-3" isn't ideal, but it isn't too bad either. Geometry wise, all it does is lower the rear roll center height half the space of the blocks. With SS springs the front segment is so stiff, the blocks have a negligible impact on flex.

I use a 2" block on my F body that is taper cut to set pinion angle. I put around 400 hp to the ground with set up and launch it at 4500 rpm. Never had any issue with spring wrap up or wheel hop with this set up. It is hard to see in this pic, but notice where the axle tube is in relationship to the spring pack.

Here is a better shot of the block. It is extruded aluminum, not the cast junk you find at Autozone. I puleld them out last spring to check them. After almost 10 years of use, the only tell tale sign that they are used was the paint transfered from the housing and spring pack.

I replaced the frozen solid stock leafs on my '71 Challenger with a pair of the 3300# superstocks.  The front is hung on the lower hole on the extended front mounts.  It gained about 2" of lift compared to the quite dead stock springs, and also rode better, but again the stockers were _dead_.

Even with the weenie 318, you could see and feel the rear of the car rise slightly when you floored it...

That is the cool thing about a properly set up Mopar. They will literally leap when the hammer is dropped. Which also brings up the point that if your suspension is working properly and seperating like this, you will not need a pinion snubber for traction.

Hey Stroker, you used the front mount hardware # P4120080   ?  This was all a bolt in?  I really really like the stance!
