Factory rustproof removal

 :clueless: i'm stripping the rustproof under my 71 challys rear wheel wells.right now i'm using aircraft stripper.it does work but is a pain,along with the dripping on your skin and such.talk about burning instantly.ouch.have a bucket full of water ready if you try this method.was wondering what all you do for this removal part?is there a better way to do  this.even thought about firing up the propane.and heating and scrapping,didn't sound like a good idea though sounds like a fire to me.  :lol: anyone???

It seemed like my pressure washer takes it of with no problems at all.

The fire method sounds so cool, but this stuff is probably going to go up in flames, and with the gas tank close by, you don't want that.  :grinno: I can't speak for the pressure washer, but it is a heck of alot safer.

I used the torch & scrape method, but my car was stripped & on a rotisary so somewhat safe, it does "light up" if you leave the flame on too long, or have the scraping edges hanging.
I don't have a heat gun, but that might be the answer & a lot safer if the car is together.
I got 90% off & then used solvent & a lot of rags to get the rest off. Rich.

Mineral spirits desolves undercoat but will take several liberal applications & scrubbing with a wire brush expediates the process.

Dupont Prep-Sol EATS undercoating for all 3 meals.  Dissolves it like it was water.  A little pricy but a gallon will last you for a LONG TIME.  Also it doesn't touch clear-coat or paint, just wax, tar, and oil.  Don't even have to wear gloves :thumbsup:

I used a air powered scraper.  I popped off pretty easily, and it was a good workout for the arms!

Where did you find an air powered scraper? That sounds like the way to go.

I thought I got it from Harbor Freight, but I don't see it there now.

I did a google search and found this one that looks like it, though it is a different brand.

thanks alot man.that looks like the ticket iv'e been thinking about.don't know why i don't have one in my tool box already.  :banghead: i was thinking about my air chiesel but that would have been way to much for the task at hand.  :roflsmiley: have to get one of these,looks like it has many uses.COOL!  :2thumbs:

  :grinno: YUP,thats why i didn't try it in the first place.propably would have ended up putting a hole in it.  :lol: sure could have used that air scrapper a couple weeks ago.intake gaskets were stuck on like no tommorrow.  :pullinghair:
