Pick-Up Trucks
« on: March 27, 2007 - 11:25:24 AM »
I want to talk about pickup trucks. Which one is the toughest, most reliable...the best in your opinion?
Give me some examples and tell me why you think so. I like Dodge Ram very much but I saw a crash test a few months ago on the internet and Ram didn't do good. I heard somewhere that GMC makes the best pickups. Is it true?
What about Japan trucks?

We don't have a lot of pick-up trucks here. Only toyotas and nissans, no American stuff so I really want to know more about them because I know that in USA everybody has a pickup.

Thanks for your answers.

Youre kidding me right?  Can a power stroke even compare to a Cummins?   :grinno:

well I have a friend with a brand new Powerjoke , the block split in 1/2 3 months after buying it , another friend has an 06 powerjoke , the milage so far sucks & it will not make power like the older 7.3 powerstroke he used to have , another friend had a duramaxi & it ate all the injectors at 25,000 due to poor factory fuel filter at least the injectors for it are only $1000 each + installation for a total of over $10,000 , good thing it was under warranty this time what about next time ? A set of performance  injectors for the cummins runs under $1000 for all 6
the Cummins is a proven engine used in many other applications & will make far more torque & last for 700,000 miles at least when taken care of , the problem with the Dodge is in the front end & tranny the auto trans Must have a upgraded torque converter with a multiple disc lock up clutch to live very long , there are some fixes for the front end also
I still like my old 89 Cummins more than than the newer ones & it has over 500,000 & gets 26 MPG steady
if you are keeping it long term Cummins for sure , if you are leasing for 2-3 years & dumping it I guess it doesn`t make much difference as long as you don`t mind walking while the engine or injectors get replaced
the other problem with the Cummins is it Must have an upgraded lift pump installed why Dodge will not do this beats me

Make Mine Mopar still the best of a poor selection IMO

Oh I refuse to send my hard earned $$ to Japan , rather keep my friends working thanks [ yes I know toyoda has plants in the us & can But the $$ still go to japan ]

Both of my grandfathers retired from Chrysler plants and most of my Uncles still work in Chrysler plants and my parents work for Budd Wheel out of Detroit (Soon to shut down) and are members of the UAW.  I only buy Mopar.

Speaking of trucks I drive a 1990 Dodge Ram 4x4 5.2L and its got close to 200,000k on the clock.

We sell the most parts for  bowties at the shop. I dont know if there's just more here or there just more defective.  :dunno: As for mid-size trucks we have owned them all (for delivery vehicles) over the years. I have had the BEST luck with Ford Rangers beleive it or not. I've had 3 of them and they all went over 300k on the original motor/trans/rear end. All have been V6 /auto/2x4. And always bought them used.

Just one crazy question... What is the biggest engine that you could put in dodge ram 2006/2007? Tell me in liters or cubic inches if you know.

I agree with CP 100% when it come to the cummins truck, I grew up in a service station and I have seen a lot with 300-500K on the clock.

Myself, I don't keep my trucks much longer then a couple years and do a lot of highway driving, no real need for a diesel truck. I am on my second ford truck and have had great luck with these new half tons. Gas mileage could be better but ride quality and interior top notch IMO.

BADFISH, my cousin has a newer style f-150, and while I can agree that it rides smooth, I cant say the seats are anything too special.  I think that a cardboard box is just as comfortable, IMO.  Just looking at them they look square and uncomfortable.  Good support though I guess if thats what a person is looking for.   :dunno:

Was his truck a Lariat, King Ranch or a Harley, cuz the other models really don't compare and I agree with you. I drive 60K/year and I think its great. Having cushiony seats are one thing, but feeling comfy in the cockpit is another, some trucks you just can't get the seats, pedals wheel etc set to suit, and for me these do. :dunno:

In a 1500, the biggest you can get is a 5.7L Hemi (345hp/375tq) unless you get the Viper truck SRT-10

In a 2500/3500 you can get either the 5.7L Hemi (345hp/375tq) or the 6.7L Cummins Diesel (350hp/650tq).

I am partial to the 94-97 f250's,I like the body style better than any of the new ones.I have a 95 f250 4x4 off road XLT powerstroke 7.3.I get 19 highway wheather i am towing 10k pounds or empty.Plus when i bought it 2 years ago i paid 10.5k cash and didnt have 800 plus payments a month. It has 150k miles on it now.I installed an Edge evolution programmer,4" turbo back exhaust, exhuast guage,12k winch with front and rear hitches and rancho 9000's with incab remote.I have back up the hill to my shop my 20 feet car trailer with a car on it several times, never loss traction and its STEEP.I love the truck, its a real beast in 4x4 with a powerstroke.
