Taillight LED Conversion?

Anyone using Hitech Products LED Conversion Kits?  Any opinions on this product from this company?

They are pricey but they really do light up the back end. My wife was following me one night and said I almost blinded her when I put the brakes on. I do not want to get hit from behind because of dim tail lights. It is too easy to miss the old brake lights in bright sunlight.

It only took about 15 minutes to install them once I got to the light casing. It took almost 3 hours to do the whole assembly. On my R/T I had to remove the trim panel to get to the tail light lenses. In order to remove the panel I had to lower the bumper and to lower the bumper I had to remove the valance.

Would I do it again? Definitely just for the piece of mind.

I am going to put them in the Charger as well.

I saw the one for the 70 Cuda's for $179.95. Prices are out of control....

From the way I see it, at the very least, you need a bulb that has the stub at 90 degrees since the sockets for the tail lamps are below the housing. I have seen these types of bulbs out there, but my concern follows next:

I read that the thermal flashers are not heavy duty enough to flash the led bulbs, and that you would have to upgrade to an electronic flasher unit. I would have to recommend more research on this to verify.

Lasty, I don't see paying the rediculous prices for these set-ups. I bet with some additional research, you could find a how-to on the web with parts you can get at radio shack.

Convert to a 2057 for a brighter light.

Or go to Radio Shack to buy the boards, LEDs and solder gun for about $50 and make your own.

Go to the bottom, and see the right-angle led bulbs. 1157 would be for tail and stop light.

I did do some checking, and you do need a heavy duty flasher or an electronic unit. You may also need to add an additional resistor to slow the flash rate down.

I just wanted to toss in my $0.02. I bought and installed the HiTech LED kit for my 71 Cuda tail lights, and I am very pleased with them. They were easy to install, and they look AWESOME! From the quality of the hardware, the ease of assembly, and the bright end result, I think the price was/is very fair.

Just to let you know, you need to get the bulb with more than 19 LEDS because I tried a set of them on my father's dart and the stock bulb was still much brighter than the 19 LED bulbs I had.

Looks like the one pictured above has 30. Much. much more reasonable price.
