Silver Bullitt's progress
« on: March 28, 2007 - 05:45:31 PM »
Finally have some progress to report on my '73 Challey. This is my first car that I have owned since the summer of '75. The car has 50K miles was wrecked in '79 and has not been in service since although in the mid '80s it was drivable. I would not call this a restoration as I don't have the means to do that and the car overall is in pretty good shape and all I want is a decent driver in the end. Other than some interior work done over a year ago this is the first complete (almost) undertaking. I have removed & refinished the front suspension, K-frame, brakes, replaced the worn components and upgraded the torsion bars to .96 Next I will be removing the rear suspension to do the same.

Thanks for the complements.. all original except for the obvious, shocks, brake hose, bushings, and a few odd fasteners that were in bad shape.
David, I have a few old interior pics I can add.

Thanks Killer,  OS .... hanging from the dash is a late '70s vintage Panasonic amp. which will have to suffice till more pressing matters are delt with.

Nice progress with rebuilding the front end.  The car's beginning to look nice again. :2thumbs:  I still have to install my front suspension in mine.  What UCA bushings did you use?  I bought a set of offset UCA bushings to hopefully be able to get a better angle when it's all done. (If I'm remembering correctly it helps for more + caster, which is useful in these older muscle cars.)

Nice day here in Alabama sooo I managed to get off my abundant posterior and do a little something on ole Bullit.
Built a couple of devices to do an at home front end alignment. The trammel gauge was not up to snuff but with the aid of a measuring tape I was able to get the track about right. Measured my caster using a square device placed on the floor & finding the relative difference to the upper & lower ball joint grease fittings. If my measurements are correct I have 2.08degrees positive caster, even if I'm off by 20% its in spec for a power steering car. I had installed the upper control arm bushings with max pos. caster & camber as this seemed to give the most pos. caster but this I could not believe. With my trusty MADMAN camber gauge finally dialed in I found the camber needed no adjustment. Triple checked both sides after bouncing & rolling the car. Good way to spend  three or four hours.
