The First Cut Is The Deepest

Finally found the courage to start cutting out the rusty quarter & trunk extension.

Someone was being paid by the spot weld...I'm convinced

Don't worry it gets easier. I had to tell myself to stop cutting up the car!  There isn't much on Twisted fish that hasn't been cut ( and modified )  :screwy:
Coming along real nice by the way.

It has been quite a productive week, I lost 7-Lbs from Sat. evening through Sunday sweating in up to 100* heat beating on this little piece of patch panel. The weather broke yesterday so I'm back at it tonight getting the final fitment before trimming & preparing to weld... So here I sit at 1:30AM all juiced up & hating to quit, man it's nice out there.    Here's a few pics of my Madman Approach

1st Pic is of the right side to give you perspective of what I'm up against... The OE gap is substantial but even..... to get anywhere close to that in the second picture of the patch panel I had to re-make the rearmost edge moving the top out & the bottom in. The difference at the top can be adjusted or washers added to even out.

Also had to move the body line above the wheel arch about 1/4"
The metal braces are to make sure things are straight up & down etc.& give something to clamp to.

Spent a good part of today getting the final fit on the quarter patch.. had to move that rear edge over another 1/8 inch..getting pretty handy with a hammer & dolly. Also I have trimmed a little too much off in a couple of places so I'm trying to bridge up to 1/4", seems to be working. 2nd pic I added a couple of struts to hold the bottom still, this really brought everything together..    Final pic is a slide clamp I've discovered doubles as a pretty good over sized vernier caliper.  Oh yea it's on a very important part of my shop equipment....MY bucket seat.  :icon16:

I've had a big ole blower sitting around for a couple of years I finally wired up ... like a 30mph breeze but I can't use it while welding, fortunately the last few days we've had relatively cool nights.

1st pic of the rear qtr...still some filler & detail work
2nd pic Installed the trunk extension... Sill some welding to be done
Last 2 pics I went under to start repairing for sandblasting the bottom but after scrubbing some grease & dirt off I don't believe it will be needed overall... Just a few crevices that I cant reach

Another Beautiful, if somewhat humid Day in the Sunny South. Been busting it all week to get ready to paint the underside. Today a fresh coat of epoxy primer went on. Now for a Nap.

If your Slower than me Your Backing Up..     I work hard at it when the mood/conditions are right, otherwise why rush, it sat for 25+ years with nothing whatsoever being accomplished...

Doubt it will be on the road this year...Next is to drop the Engine/tranny out Pull the front sheet metal off & refinish the engine bay.
