1971 Challenger R/T production with factory Shaker hoods (N96 Option)...?

Does anyone have reliable production numbers for 1971 Challenger R/Ts with the N96 "Shaker hood" option?  Over the years I have heard different numbers ranging from 107 to 143 (in addition to 34 to 38 base models).  Also, any break-downs by engine... for example I have heard ultra-low numbers for 383 Magnum powered Shaker equipped 1971 Challenger R/Ts. i.e. 6-8 total (seems too low).

Any websites with production numbers?

there was a '71 N96-Shaker car for sale locally....really rough, 383, brown...not sure what ever happened to it...mid to high teens

I've heard different numbers too.  Some numbers seem to come from people with % of cars built with certain options and then they break it down by production engine,tranny, shaker, etc.  After all these years of car production knowledge being learned and shared, if the exact # built of 71 Challengers with shaker were known, it would be more common knowledge.  Needless to say, it's a low number. 

Galen could tell you how many he knows of with shaker and 383, and how many without, and then you do the % to get a close approximate.

Uh Ohh, Allen are you thinking of selling your car?!?!?  Please say it ain't so, I hope you're just curious....  BTW - how's things been? Missed you at the last Cowtown meeting.  Somebody mentioned he stopped by a house in "our town" after being told about "an old Challenger" under a cover back your way.  I figured it had to be you and mentioned you are usually at the meetings.

Being that N96 was an option and Chrysler did not keep records for options, I do not think there is any way to know for sure. It may be just like colors. Only an educated guess can be made by what percentage is still around.  I believe more 71's were built than 70's.  Soon these hoods will be like 55-57 Chevy's; more will exist than were built by the factory.

Sorry that I have missed most of the club meetings lately, I have been tied up with a workshop wiring project and just had my house roofing redone.  I have a lot of other projects that I want to get finished this year, so selling some projects will raise the required $$$.

Also, my lil' ole workshop is too crowded...    Still, selling some of my cars is a bit hard to swallow! 

Unfortunately, the '71 has attracted more attention than I would like... no room in the workshop for it.

Are you all settled in now?  Other than hurting my back moving a co-worker's 1932 Ford, I have been doing OK lately... How about you and your family?  Talk to you sometime soon...

I believe some have those numbers fairly well nailed down... I think the 107 production value for '71 R/Ts is based on production precentage records kept by Chrysler, but I am not certain.  The 143 value may include baseline Challengers, but one book gives it as the R/T value...

I believe Daniel B. may have some fairly accurate figures... it is his specialty after all!

I believe Chrysler kept records of percent of production totals for major options like paint color and hood styles.  Using those percentages to calculate hard numbers is a bit tricky... Did the values include Canadian cars, cars sold overseas, sales bank cars, etc.?...

Seems like a neat car, I too have seen 71 Challenger shaker production numbers over the years, but I don't have a record of them. Any other pics of the car you could post?

A friend of mine has a 71 R/T with a shaker hood.He bought it new. He said that his was 1 of  39 with a shaker and it was a $99 option.
