Been watching the BJ Auction tonight and 2 or 3 (very nice) Challenger TA's have gone for between $50 and $55k.   Even the commentators are surprised;  prices seem quite low.

I always wondered that myself. Those lights could make a piece of pooh look good.

The cars were pretty nice.  The lights do help.  The prices may be lower because the economy is bad here.  We are #1 in housing foreclosures in the US right now.  Kinda hard to buy a collector car when you can't afford a house.

I doubt the big collectors and dealers are affected by the local economy as how many regular guys buy at B-J?Scottsdale is always the biggest money auction nowadays.Artificial light can actually show more imperfections than sunlight and the commentators seem to know what they are looking at quality wise.

They have been affected and many have left the area.  That is what has affected the economy.  If they can't afford it; who can?

I don't think the people with the big bucks were there in force.
I know a lot of people that sold there cars are sick right now.
Some of the buyers just about grabbed the form to sign after winning before someone changed their mind or found a mistake.
There were some major bargains on all brands...it was like watching something from several years ago $ wise.

Bound to happen sooner or later. I think that the investors are starting to sense that investment potential is starting to slow down quite a bit, so they are starting to look for something else. As far as collectors, I seem to notice a new trend. Cars other than muscle cars are starting to become more popular. Interest in truely rare cars like Dusenbergs, vintage race cars, and the like seem to be what is starting to pick up. I think it's because there are so many clones out there.  T/A's are rare, but if there are a thousand clones out there for every original, the originals don't have the "WOW Factor" that they used to. So the collectors and investors are turning to the cars that are more rare, and harder/impossible to clone.

I always thought it'd be a bummer to have a real $$$ 427 cobra because whenever you drove it people would think it was a kit car.

I think its a slowing trend as with housing here in calif.Potential buyers are not in a feeding frenzy anymore and are asking themselves"Is it really worth what they are asking?"Now i like to see mopars get the recoginition they deserve, only when i am not buying
I have seen many very desireable cars sit unsold here much longer than they ever have. Most of the people that bit off huge mortguages in the Boom can't afford these cars now,or they are coming down to earth in their thinking and not Hocking their arse to buy one.All the national home builders I call on have a huge excess of homes in their inventory. That and the outrageous gas pricing is changing everything.
