Classic Mopar 5 Speed
« on: March 31, 2007 - 05:43:36 AM »
For those of you located on the west coast, Classic Motorsports Group has their E-Body Tremec 5 speed on display for the first time at the Good Guys Delmar show.  This is the first in a long line of new installations that they are working on to support the Mopar faithfull.  If you get a chance, travel out to the show and say Hi to Jeff and Scott and give them your feedback.

Are these the same Tremac transmissions Keisler make and sell in conversion kits?
How much for these "classic" tremacs and are they just transmissions? Bolt in and go?  :dunno:

Thanks mate, looks really good, just like the Keisler kits infact. Looks like it's not a 100% complete kit. No pedal assembly jumps out straight away. The floor pan is a template unlike Keisler actually replacement floor plan. Wonder what the prices are like. Hope they're good value so it makes it easier for more people to complete the conversion.

I would assume that the prices are going to be nearly identical for what you get, though the competition may drive the prices of both kits down a bit.

At present the pricing is similar to Keisler.  Modifications have been made to the Classic Mopar 5 Speed to improve shifter performance and provide the proper slip yoke length that minimizes drive line vibration.  Simply put, there is now an alternate source for this Tremec Transmission with the modification needed to fit in the E-body Chassis.

Carl,
A friend of mine was telling me about his Repro Shelby Cobra last Sunday.  It has a big block Ford engine hooked to a Tremec 5-Speed.  He is on his 4th transmission.  Some thing inside keeps breaking and he has been to 2 different vendors. The warranty usually expires long before he gets any real miles on it so he ends up buying a newer (stronger) version, to replace it.  An A.C.Cobra is a little small kit car so the weight is probably 1/3 of an e-body.

I just thought I'd let you know what he told me about Tremecs.
Good luck,
Rob

Thanks Rob, appreciate the info mate. I run a Tremac behind my Aussie Ford without any problems. It's a TR3650 model trans. The Ford makes 540rwnm @ 1,500rpm and 700rwnm @ 4,400rpm. Also makes 310rwhp in stock form apart from tuner and exhaust system without any problems at all. You can see more about it here: http://www.nz440rt.com/TS50mods.html (Dyno sheets etc). Also, Greenfish the member here gives his Keisler absolute death without any problems, this is track and street driving. I'm beginning to think there are good and bad stories out there with the Tremac transmissions.

If it does decided to eat itself I'll probably look at what XV have, a Viper T56 trans. They said you can shift it at WOT @ 7,000rpm+ and it's built to handle up to 1,200rpm. They have the mount for the pistol grip too.

You need to be more specific when you talk Tremec's.  The T5 is standard Ford stuff.  The TKO 1 and 2 which handle better torque numbers have been replaced by the newest TKO-500 and TKO-600 series.  The TKO-600 is a brute and should handle the power.  With a light car like that, something else is going on.

I talked to the Tremec guys on the Power Tour and talked to them about my friend's problems.  It turns out that my friend was using the TKO-1 1nd 2 and that is why he was breaking parts.  He is going to upgrade to the TK0-600 and that should solve all of his problems.
