727 Rebuild? /New drivetrain?
« on: October 21, 2003 - 11:17:02 AM »
I have a 73 Barracuda with a 383 magnum and 727 tranny with a shift kit.
2 questions:
1) When shifting into drive or reverse it slams hard into gear :o Should I rebuild tranny?
2) The car originally came with a small block. Is the driveshaft/rear end ok or do I need to change or upgrade anything for big block power?

that is what a shift kit does ,it will jump into gear hard , don`t rebuild the tranny
depends which diff you have now ! if you have an 8 3/4 you will be ok

I believe it is 8 3/4. The reason I ask about the hard shifting is because I had a 1970 340 with a new tranny rebuild with a shift kit. That tranny shifted half as hard.

Is it possible since there is more power with the 383 that the tranny shifts harder?

My mechanic is going to check. It might be the converter.
I just found out because of my big cam the stock converter may not be sufficient.
