Will the later longer challenger front bumper brackets work on earlier bumpers? Or must I have earlier brackets?

I'm not sure why you would want the later brackets on your car. I tried them on the rear of my 70 without success. The holes didn't line up. Not sure about the front, but it's probably the same deal.

I am not sure what year bumper brackets I have, they look long, but I have nothing to compare to. The ends of the brackets are notched at the top where they bolt to the frame on the car.

It seems I have the correct rear bumper brackets but the wrong front ones...anyone got a set of 70-72 front bumper brackets for sale? Part number on my front bumper brackets are 3686 082 and 63796
