Gas Question
« on: April 05, 2007 - 04:40:30 PM »
How long does gas last when it is stored with stor-n-start or other gas preservatives?  Is 2 years to long? Should I drain the gas out and replace with new gas or just add new gas to the old gas?

After two years the gas is going to be a little stale, depending on how much you've got in the tank and how skilled you may be at removing it, I'd lube the cylinders and try to fire it up.  It will run on old gas, not well and with no power, but it may be easier to run it through than drain it out. There are additives you can add to gas to make it last longer.   :grinyes:

With all the cars sitting in storage around here, it usually only takes a winter or so to make the gas burn...less than desirable when they are fired up in the spring.  But I don't believe gas goes "bad" until about 2 years when it gets funny smellin.  If you don't have a full tank or little to none in the tank I'd fill her up with new gas. :2cents:

Stabil claims to keep gas fresh for 2 years. The trick is to do this with a full tank. If you have less than that, but have some additive in it, I would just go out and fill it up with high octane gas, and drive it.

 :iagree:

Run that gas in the family lawn mower or something. Put fresh gas in or risk it? I know what choice I would make!

We deal with "old gas" daily at the yard. And like most auto recyclers use the gas in the vehicles we get for our delivery tucks ect. .... basic rule of thumb ... if it smells like gas use it... if it smells like varnish dont...  :faint:
