Challenger Not Starting
« on: April 05, 2007 - 08:07:54 PM »
I let the car warm up and take it for about a mile cruise...got it home and shut the car off then I had to start it again to jockey it a little in the garage and the car wont start... when I turn the key nothing happens ??? my header is touching the starter ! and I have had problems in the past with the ignition switch... Ill try it again in the morning...any ideas ??? Im leaning towards the ignition switch and I never had starter issues before after such a short drive... I dont think its the starter cause the car wont even try to crank ... like I said I turn the key and nothing happens ???

Might be the fuse link, going to the battery, or the neutral safety switch

I checked the wires and they are good and I have my battery in the trunk...and yes I though about the neutral saftey switch....the car easily goes into park so Im doubting that but I'll check in the a.m.   ...

My nuetral safety switch plug used to keep falling off.  We finally fixed it, but i would get "stranded" at places and I would need to crawl under the car to push it back on (hopefully without burnin my hand on the exhaust).

I've also had mine do the same thing sometimes, on mine the plug for the steering column isn't the greatest, so I would wiggle it and it would start working again.....do the gauges or anything work? or just no crank?

Just no crank .... the guages work !!! what do you mean by plug on the column...the harness plug ??? cant you jump the car on the relay and bypass the ignition...

I jumped the car off the relay and it started .... does that mean the starter is fine to be able to do it that way ???

Should be, I would suspect the ignition switch, or the wiring between it an the relay.

The wiring is all good as I replaced most of it... plus I checked the wiring out... I think it is the ignition switch as well...

If it jumps at the relay, the most likely suspect is the neutral safety switch.  Make sure it's still attached to the tranny.  If it is and you are having this problem a quick way to check if it is the switch is to put a small jumper wire between the two outermost connections in the switch wiring harness plug.  If that lets you start the car, you probably need a new safety switch.

:nono: Ground the center wire, outer ones are reverse lights.

Here and there my Challenger won't start either, no crank or anything - if I fiddle around with the wiring connector under the steering wheel, where the old wiring is plugged into the re-pop stuff, then it'll turn over and start. Gotta get down there and check the connections, throw in some di-electric grease maybe, or just tighten up the connections. Anyway, that's my  :2cents:
