Do They Reproduce Complete Dana 60's?
« on: April 06, 2007 - 04:32:12 AM »

I am looking at putting a Dana 60 into the 'Cuda. I have and will continue to search eBay for possible rear ends but I was just curious if anyone sells complete dana 60 rear ends (drum to drum). Maybe someone makes them up?

Thanks,
NZ

Thanks Keith, exactly what I am after. I'll go with Magnum Force as I have seem their named advertised quite a lot, the others I haven't heard of. What is the difference between "Trac-Lock" and "Detroit Locker"?  :dunno:

Moser, in Indiana aslo sell rearends. Extremely popular and first in name brand. Tracklock is prefered over the detroit in my preference. To me, detroits are noisy. They have a locking lever in them

Thanks Al, I'll go have a look at the Moser stuff. I have also heard of them as well.
Thanks also for the advice on the Detroit locker etc. I don't want any "unnecessary" noise. :grinno:

Nope! :lol2: I wish, I'm just making enquires at first. My main priority is finding the 71.

If I'm going for a whole new Dana 60 rear end, I actually may go with a B-Body set up.
Relocation kit and get some bigger rubber in there.....I'll see.

Here is some candy...
This is the b-body spec Moser 60 that I put in my '71.   This one is built with 4.10s on a Detroit Locker (3 series), billet yoke, upgraded rear cover, and pinion snubber.  Total damage, minus shipping, was $2300.  Looking at all the aftermarket dana 60s, like Moser, Strange, etc... They all hover around similar prices. Dealing with Moser was painless.

Carl, I know it might be a bit of a hassle for you being downunder - but I built a Dana 60 3.73 Trac-Lok for my Chally using a 73 F250 Ford rear end. CP and I pulled it at the wrecker and the unit cost was $85 CDN. To modify and add spring perches and mopar ends I sent the original 8-3/4 housing to a fellow who did all of the work for $240 plus $25 for the parts. This diff came from a straight 6 truck - how beat up do you think it would be? Now I have to get the Strange axles - $360ish US.
So from a fellow kiwi here is a suggestion if you are serious and want to save some serious $$.

Get CP to go get a diff from the wrecker and do the same. Of course you have to pay for his time but you will end up with a diff landed in NZ for waaaayyyy less than buying a Moser unit or similar then also having to pay shipping. Plus CP can downplay the value a bit for the 12.5% thingy at your end. A thousand saved here or there sure adds up - I know the C-C list members would all agree on that.

Regards
Barry

Thanks Barry but I'm really after new Mopar built items for the car.
Sounds good though and I won't completely cross that off my list.

HemiDog: That looks very nice indeed mate, something  I could see myself getting.
I'll probably look at 3.23 gears or similar as with the Keisler they equate to a rear end of 3.55.
I want to grip and get a smooth launch if I'm going with a 528ci Hemi. I feel 4:10's will just be too much.

Though, not a big drama to change if I don't like what ratio I get.
Thanks for the help and advice guys, much appreciated. :)

the lowest ratio for the 60 that I know of is a 3.33 & it is hard to get , typiaclly nothing lower/ higher  than 3.54 will be available
