xv frame connectors, anyone else use them?
« on: April 06, 2007 - 03:14:05 PM »
I'm in the middle of an install... I figured some minor trimming, well been trimming and refitting for 2 hours on just one side and still needs more work.  Anyone else install this, maybe give a little feedback?

Guess not lol!  Well took me all day, but got them on.  I think they could rework them stuff to make them a better fit and to accomodate some things... but they are nice heavy connectors.  Dont know if Id want to do it again though!

I had ordered the front cross member from them guys and they sent me sub frame connectors instead, if I hadnt allready cut in 2x3 square tube I would have definatly installed these.

I ordered the XV stiffening kit which has their subframe connectors. I never expect anything to fit 100%, never does. But, not as long as it took you, glad you got it in though. Be worse if they just didn't fit and to make them fit you had to make your own. You should send them an email or let them know about it.......it's the only way the product may change for the better.

My personal car I'm goingn 2x3 route through the floors.  The xv setup gives the same look without interfering with anything inside.  I honestly had to grind about half of the of the areas that meet the body to make it even close to flush.  Then some tapping on the floors to get it closer.  The directions stated about not all cars beign the same and I'm sure thats true.  I ended putting them on a slight angles to avoid interfering with the holes in the crossmember.  Being a factory 440 CA emissions car, got the return line and a vent or whatever.  So had to make sure the opening was completely unblocked.  I did not expect it to be a set on and weld and be done.  This car also has factory torque boxes, so I knew Id be trimming there.  So I cut that and had no choice then but to use them.  If I hadn't already cut them I may have went a different route.

So the two main problems to me was the way they were reconmended to be mounted would block the holes in the crossmember, the other is if you fit them as directed, the rails on the rear are angled in front, but the connectors are straight... which throws things off.

I did modify them to how I wanted them to fit and now the works done, I am happy with them lol!  But they were fighting me earlier!  The cars getting a 493 stroker with eheads, so it will be ready now!

Hey NZ, did you get everything with chassis stiffening kit?  I am still waiting on the engine compartment brace and I ordered my kit back in Sept. 06?   :banghead:

Thanks,
Travis

I used them also. It took me all day to get them to fit. I had the tork boxes to deal with also.
Every time I look at them I say it was worth it.
I would do it again.

Yeah, guess I'm not the only one!  They were way off, well maybe not way way off, but did need lots of work to get them snug.  Just not sure why, at least I know its not just me!

No, I haven't got mine yet but I only ordered mine 2 weeks ago and they said it would be around 4 week wait.

Hi, are those XV frame connectors made from a single piece of channel steel or
three pieces? In the photo I've seen of them, it looks like a 2x2 square tubing with
"sides" welded on that go up to the underside of the floor. Is that correct? I've
already purchased the 2x2 square connectors from Auto Rust Technicians and thought
about adding the side pieces to give them that factory installed look that XV and
US Cartool(?) connectors have. Using cardboard to make a template of the underside floor contour to transfer to sheet steel. Jeff

I would guess its at least 2x3, it is a single piece and I agree in the pics it looks welded.

Those XV ones look like a copy of the US Car Tool ones, which is what I ordered and will soon install.

I haven't heard of any complains on the US Car Tool ones.

Looks like us cartool is 3 piece while xv is one solid piece.  The reason the owner wanted xv was they are a thicker guage.  I heard us car tool fit good, but I havent used them.

The US Car ones are not 3-piece, however the rear half are split to allow for variances and once tacked on, you weld up the split.

Looking from the pics, it looks like the XV ones are 3-piece as I see a continuous weld down the length of them to box them in:
