14" Tires
« on: April 07, 2007 - 12:53:20 PM »
Looking for advice:    What is the largest size tire I should consider for my '74 Challenger with original Mag 500 rims?   I would like to fill up those wheel wells (especially the rear) -- although my research so far indicates it is very hard to find much of anything in 14 inch.

Thanks

The problem with the 14" wheels is they are only 5.5" wide. I have ran 235/60's & they do well.
There has been discussion on this issue & some here think that is too wide as they do bulge a little in the middle. Radial t/a is avail in this size still. Here is a pic of the bulge with a stock 05 mustang tire to compare.

I've got 14" Rally's on the front of my car. They are 14X6 wheels. I have the biggest recommended for them, and that's 70 series, 225's. I was trying to go with the most meat possible. I imagine they could fit on a 5.5 inch rim too, if that's what you have.  :2cents:

You can get Rallyes in 14x7 - my car had them on it when I bought it.  235 is the biggest you should go for a 7" rim.  Check the tire manufacturer's website, they'll lost the recommended rim widths for tire sizes.

Thanks for all the advice.

these 14'' rims are very limiting -- Does anyone think I can go with 235 70's (if I can find them) -- or are my rims not wide enough (to be safe?)

Thanks

BFGoodrich recommends a wheel width of 6.5" to 8.5" for a P235/60R14 Radial T/A.  Theirs is the advice I'd take.

See here:
