I think that is partly due to the emissions required on the modern American V8.  For example: the Viper (I know its a V10) but with the factory exhaust it sounds horrible, but change the exhaust and WOW it sounds good.


I perfer the American V8.  I think the European V8 sounds too much like a motorcycle.

I like them both, but at idel I think the American V8 is the best sounding. But I think the best sounding motors would be a Ferrari V12 in a 71 365 Daytona.

Depends...I love newer euro V8's with that throaty sound to them, then sound like(in Ferrari's case) a crotch rocket engine at higher RPMs...but I can't deny the awesome ground pounding sound of classic american V8's   I suppose if my 440 was turning 10-13 grand I'd sound something like that?   It's encoded in all human DNA, must love powerful sounding motors

It's more like comparing apples and oranges.  I like both.  To compare, the engines need to be close to the same size.

I assume all that extra displacement in the American motors gives it the deeper sound?

Yes.  American small blocks would be a closer comparison.  Europeans have dealt with high gas prices longer than we have.  That is why they have developed the small motors.

Me too brother....        They have their own bada$$ sound.  At idle or full honkin', a Hemi sounds wicked.  They sound like some prehistoric mechanical beast when you are tearing up a 1/4 mile in one.  They sound good from outside the car, but even better from inside where you can hear all that mechanical stuff going on....

I also think that european v8 sounds like a motorcycle and I don't like that. Like you said, european enigines are smaller and rev higher than big v8 monsters

i really like the rumble of muscle.but i also love the sound of a Ferrari

I really dont think a Ferrari sounds like rice just like you can pick out a Hemi rumble,you can also pick out a Ferrari no matter how many ricers are around. IMO
