Considering Holley TBI Commander 950
« on: April 09, 2007 - 02:31:59 PM »
I've been thinking how nice it would be to add some driveability to the 'Cuda.  I'm a little tired of these "out of the box" carbs that run rich and I could sure use easier starting, better gas mileage, etc. I was going to spend $400 on an Innovate wide band O2 sensor for help on jetting the carb although  I've heard that if you watch the O2 readings during street cruising they are all over the map which just shows how crude carbs really are.  What I'm looking for are some suggestions on how to add TBI or EFI without spending $4-5K.  The motor is a 408 stroker with a magnum Edelbrock dual plane intake.  Hp is about 460. I've been looking at this Holley TBI Commander 950 system which is about $1500 US.  I'd have to change out my new electric fuel pump for the Holley unit and add a return line I think.  I'm not sure if this system will work with the MP distributor though??? Any thoughts/ideas?

not a fan of the Holley EFI systems , nor sure the Eddy ones are any better either
cost is still the big problem with a good EFI system

Are you thinking of the old Pro-Injection system or the newer Commander 950 system?  I think the Commander 950 system is available as EFI only for Chebby and Fords.  The universal (Mopar) system would have the injectors at the throttle body.  I've seen lots of nice EFI systems for around $3750 US!  I think I would of been better off getting a used 5.7 or 6.1 hemi if I was going this route.

The local speed shop is still not recommending the Holley Commander 950 due to computer software issues.  They said paired with the FAST computer it would be great or go to the Eddy system if you don't need full bore programmability (is that a word?)  The Eddy system is only $3100 Cdn which seems reasonable in comparison.  The only drawback is that they don't have the magnum manifold in their system.

I have heard the same thing , the Holley EFI systems are not great
You could Check with Bruce on this site , he has the 6 Pack Jensen , he may have something for you
I am using a SDSEFI computer with the 440 system I am building IF the engine makes enough vacuum to work with a Map sensor , if not I will be rethinking this ecu choice

Hey guys -

Check out Momar fuel injection.  He has an incredible system that is scaleable.  Simply put, the thing does not have limitations.  More power, bigger injectors are all that is needed.  The computer and program are real easy.  This guy knows his stuff and best of all the quality is over the top.  Dusty is a great guy to talk to.  Beware the price is higher - about $2300.00 but the computer (Big Stuff 3) is a powerful unit.  I'm looking to put this in the bonnet of my Paxton.
