Another what is it worth thread? 74 charger?

I'm loooking at a 74 dodge charger se,  The car has 318/904 drivetrain and runs and drives(around the yard), but it will need an entire new brake system(they don't work) and new trunk lid and rear fenders new trunk floor, floor boards and new upholstery.  What would you pay for it?    His asking price is $800

Looks like a starter with some potential. 74 Charger was my first car! Alot of fun. How are the door jams? Are they rusted? You might want to be careful chossing this car if they rusted through. Good luck on your choice.

I'll get some better pics next week when i go up to see the car and decide if i'll get it then.   From what i've seen, it is does have a lot of rust, especially in the back of the car, so i might just offer a little lower and see if he nibbles on it.

Probably gonna be around 12-15k to get it back to as new condition with the floor pans and quarters and paint and stuff. You could get a big head start by finding a better body for a cheaper price. Just a thought. And check the frame rails good. Hate to see you get started on something over your head. It was a good looking car back in its day

Looks like a cool car to play with.  Doesn't hurt to see if he'll go a lower on the price but for $800 it looks interesting if there aren't issues with the frame and such.  But still, it'll need lotsa work.

Depends what you want to do with it.  Do you want to restore it or make it driveable? Are you going to be doing most of the work?  Looks like it has a lot of potential for $800, IMO but I could be wrong.  If you really like this type of car, get it before you have one of those, "I coulda had it for $800..." stories. 

I personally think these cars look real mean all black with a nice set of fat Cragars or Keystone Klassics out back, sort of the 70's look.

Yeah, ive had one of them I coulda had it experiences.  My plans if i do get it will be to make a driver of it at first.  Then eventually build the 318 up a little and have a few blast down the drag strip.  I'm not looking for a all out drag car, just one to enjoy.

See if you can get more pics for us to look at, especially the undercarriage/frame.  See if you can put a deposit on it.  Get it in writing too, make it a refundable one within 1 weeks time or something so the guy doesn't think you're going to take too ong to make a decision.  Just act on it while you can.

How bad is the rot?  Can you do a patch job first on them or is it way beyond that?  I'm not a picky person so I'm not into doing restos or anything, just making it presentable and driveable.

I'll be getting pictures next weekend.  I'll probably pay the 800 and get it.  The rails are fine, most of the cancer could be fixed with bondo, the brakes arre the "what needs replaced" question.  i won't know that until I tear them apart.  i'll post pics asap.  Thanks guys
