Overall, it's probably not too bad.  For each specific year, not so well.  (I know of at least a 'Cuda and about five Challengers just in my small hometown that haven't had luck on their side.)
1973 Dodge Challenger......................The ongoing project. (00/----\00)
1991 Dodge Stealth R/T Twin-Turbo....The sunny day cruiser (RTBoost)
1990 Toyota Celica GT Liftback...........The new daily & winter driver.
All-American Muscle: 'Cudas and Challengers...Still the Elite and always will be.

I'd say most are doing fine but with E-Bodies involved in accidents & cars in barns etc, there will be a fair few missing.

35-40 years...50-60% survival rate....sometimes the more rare or special the car is, the higher the survival rate...... the more common were used to death and the rate may be lower...

Intersting note on E bodies; the entire 70 to 74 production run of both Challengers and Barracudas combined do not equal any single year of Mustang or Camaro production...and 69 Camaros and 67 Mustangs are being made new now.

:iagree:
I usually figure appx 50% still exist in some form or another. The pot is getting slimmer. Cars that most of us are saving today were parts cars 20(+) yrs ago.

I'd say WAY less than 50%.  Probably more like 20% or so.  I've parted out a bunch myself that are no longer with us so to speak.  The comment about the rarer cars surviving at a higher rate is probably accurate, T/A's AAR's, 6 Packs and Hemi cars probably approach the 50% margin but remember a lot of these cars also ended up wrapped around poles especially 4 speed cars.

I'd bet they're are only 25-30% of these cars remaining.  From personal experience, saw many of these cars in the junkyards, and know they got crushed.  Even 20 yrs ago it was rare to see Cuda or Challenger on the road.

I can remember at least 10 cars over the years that I know are gone.  Compare that to the 3-4 cars me and my friends had.

...another interesting piece of trivia....there were nearly twice as many Z28 Camaros made in 1969, as there were street HEMIs made from 64-71 in all Chrysler body styles combined....

There also were more 69 Camaro's made than 70-74 Challengers.  :eek4:

I agree, but on the same note we all have the privilege of owning something very special, a piece of history that has survived time. When I think about how many survived I count my blessing that I have one.

You're comparing apples to oranges. If you're going to look at Hemi numbers, then you have to compare them against the rarest Chevy engines, like the L-88 and ZL-1.

My friends older brothers car was one of them. He told me his older brother was selling his (1970 I believe) Cuda years ago and someone came by to look at the car. When they went for a test run the guy totalled the car. Now thats a horrible story but also adds to the numbers of wrapped around trees Mopars. Lets face it they didn't handle very well other than a straight line and were extremely powerful. (big blocks especially).
