I think 20 or 30 percent is about right. I can remember back in the day I knew all of the E-bodys in town and one by one they all ended up over at Hoctors yard. I know someone over at hoctors was collecting them because whenever one got hit the wreckers would drag it over there..

At some point in the nineties I got busy and picked up as many as I could

I spoke to the guy at Hoctors recently and he said he still has 5 but the rest are in Mopar heaven  :angelwings:

(16 or so from my town)

When they went for a test run the guy totalled the car.

That individual would no longer be walking the earth on that day if that was my car.

Well we have 4 dead ones, 3 still alive at our place.  Not including one from CA.  My guess would be 25% tops.  If they werent put away in my area they are junk now!  I did see a nice purple challenger cruising by my house tonight, was in shock, never saw it before!

I know of 2 71 Cudas and a 70 Chal still running the streets here in Annapolis plus my project.  But I know I'm outnumbered just on my street by 2 69 Camaros, 1 is a numbers match 327 and the other is a 350 that the owner still has the original 6 cyl that was original to it.

I would guess that a 25% survival rate would be pretty close. very seldom do you see one driving around and if I do I try to chase it down to chat with the owner. I know of around 6 or 7 locally that are slowly becoming part of the earth again. On the other side I only know of 4 locally that are being driven or restored. Add to that a local salvage yard last year that crushed everything they had. This yard had over 10 ebodies and around 25 b bodies that were crushed. The owner was threatened with a investgation by Highway patrol because he didn't have all the titles on these types of cars. The yard had been there for over thirty years and was started by his dad. Instead of fighting the state he brought in a crusher and spent 3 weeks crushing everything in the twenty acre lot. There were some bodies that could have been saved but now they are all gone.

When watching Barrett Jackson and seeing how many Chevys (Corvettes) and Ford's were sold in comparison to Mopar's it really hits home how many are truly available.  Local cruise ins usually don't have too many e-bodies. (if any)

My guess would be 20-25%.... MAYBE?  I think it just makes the ones we have more valuable.

What were the total numbers made? My guess would be only 20 -25% left also. It would be neat to know the real percentage that is left.

I think you would be suprized at how few are left. These cars didn't have very good quality when built plus being rust pron and the ones wrecked. There were not that many made to begin with. I think the only reason the rare ones are so plentyfull is people are restoring body shells that were parted out years ago.  :2cents:

Rare_T_A - You're dead on about "Parts Cars" now being restored.  My 70 R/T had started to be picked over before I got it.  Thankfully the aftermarket has finally recognized the needs of Mopar E-Body nuts and has satrted to come out with the various parts that disappeared from my car...

Because of THE NATURE OF THE BEAST most muscles cars were beat to death or raced to death. I think 30% is about as accurate as you can get especially if you are just countint the CUDA'S and R/T's. The Baracuda and Challenger base model's may be higher.

In the last 15 years of junkyard crawling, I've only ever come across one E body, and it was only identifiable by its vin because it was so cut up and picked over.
