Best alternator?

Based on recommendation from the MML I bought and used a NOS Chrysler alternator from a late '70s car.  Its the same case style but has a very thin stator ring visible between the case halves (earlier ones are 1/2" or so wide and you can see the laminations).  The later alternator has much better low RPM output than the early ones.

I have tried three original type alternators over the years in my '70 Challenger and non of them would charge the battery under 950rpm even with no load.

I was thinking of switching to a Denso version but if a late '70s one works better i would go for that.

Did you really find they work better?

Has kept mine charged and rarely gets started. However I am running Optima yellow top. As cheap as they are and for a near bolt-on alternative you should give it a try. Also, the alt in the picture is acually rated at 137a, not 120a (my bad)

I can check the line voltage at idle and post what its output is

  At the risk of hi-jacking this thread, why are you running a yellow top Optima? I have a red, that's why I ask.
