When i had a large dog in my old house with hardwood floors, I had them refinished with the same material they use on NBA courts, cant remember what its called but is much harder than polyeuothane, is very scratch resistant, maintains a good gloss and was very easy to keep clean by simply damp moping. Maybe you can find it at your local Sherwin Williams paint store
