Newbie from Georgia
« on: April 13, 2007 - 09:15:05 PM »
I just found this site.  I've only been mopar crazy for about 6 months but car crazy for over 50 years! ;D  I bought a '70 Challenger 440 R/T convertible from a friend of my brother's in Marietta, GA.  It had been setting in a basement for the past 16 years awaiting restoration.  He reluctantly sold it to me to help finance another restoration.

It is a very solid car.  It was and will again be Top Banana with a black top and interior.  It is an automatic and AC car.  It was sold new in St Petersburg, FL at Colonial Dodge and spent all of its life in Fl until 1989 when it came to GA.  The 3rd owner striped it and painted it metallic blue around 1983 in Clearwater, FL, and the broadcast sheet probably disappeared about this time.   He also rebuilt the already replaced engine at that time.  He told me it had 13:1 pistons and was bored .060 over when he got it.  He replaced the pistons to make it more "streetable".  It still has a pretty hot cam.  It has the original transmission, but has an earlier (August) HP engine in a December built car.  I dream of finding the original (221748) 440 engine to replace the present 122377 one.   :angelwings:

I got a lot of NOS and repro parts with the car, and I have been acquiring more since the purchase.  I still have a lot to  acquire!! I have recently begun disassembly.  I go to welding classes at a local technical college in order to help me do some of my restoration, and I built a rotisserie and look forward to getting the car mounted on it.

I am a retired realty specialist from the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service after 38 years of Federal service.   I know some of you guys from moparts. com and look forward to being here too.    :bananasmi

The Challenger looks very solid, thanks for the pic.

Where did you get your garage from?  I have been thinking about adding a new building for storage and have not seen that type of design yet.

It is pretty solid for a 70s FL car.  I just removed the windshield, and the worst rust problem seems to be the cowl/upper firewall.  However, the car came with a donor piece just for that purpose.

I bought my 40' x 60' steel building from Pioneer Buildings out of Canada a couple of years ago. http://www.pioneerbuildings.com/  I'm still working on the interior.  Below is a picture of it early on before I installed the doors.  I'm in Madison.  Where are you? :bananasmi
