MAG 500 Wheels - Which are better?
« on: April 15, 2007 - 01:33:23 PM »
I'm looking to invest in set of new 15" Mag 500's for my Challenger and there appear to be two sources:  Wheel Vintiques and Stockton.   I don't see much difference, but have no experience with either.   Is one better than the other?    All advice and/or opinions welcome!    ;D

Thanks

I bought Rally Wheels thru Jegs, which were shipped from Wheel Vintigues. Spot on, in my opinion.  :2thumbs:

Have never dealt with Stockton, but can say from experience that Wheel Vintigues has a good track record in the customer satisfaction area. Although, I am surprised that you couldn't find then through Newstalgia. They are affiliated with Coker and I have always been very happy with both.

Appears you have two options at Stockton. One is chromed like wheelvintiques & the other takes a trim ring, I'm sure purchased separately at additional cost.

I don't see anything at Nostaligia for Mag 500's.    From my research, it appears that there may be a couple of different retailers (like Jegs  or Summit), but that the choice between manufacturers comes down to Stockon & Wheel Vintiques.   Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I only have expereince with Wheel Vintiques purchased thru Yr One. The black paint needed touched up in several places upon opening the boxes and one wheel was totally out of round and unable to be balanced. I would have sent them back but I figured it was easier to touch up the paint. I did return the out of round one. I purchased a set of their rallye's a few years back and had problems with them fitting on the front rotors. So I personally would try anyone other than Wheel Vintiques as I think their quality control is lacking. Just my  :2cents:

I just ordered a set from Stockton bases on opinions.  They have put back the shipping twice now blaming it on the chromers.  I'll see how good the quality is and report back here.

I bought the chrome Wheel Vintiques Magnum 500s from Summit and am very happy with them.  You have to search to find the right bullseye center cap, though.  The non-chrome "Magnums" are road wheels.

Thanks to all for their posts.   Anyone else purchased Mag 500 Wheels that has an opinion on the manufacturer -- (not necessarily the retailer).    Again, so far all I can find for options are Wheel Vintiques and Stockton).    Any other options?

thanks!   :feedback:

I know nothing of these guys and they may just be a re-seller of one of the aforementioned makes. http://www.specialtywheelsltd.org/

bullitt99: thanks for the tip.   I called Specialty Wheels -- apparently they are manufacturers (so now there are 3 different options, I believe).   They make both the Road Wheel (with trim rings) as well as the all chrome Mag 500 style.

Anybody had any experience with specialty Wheels?

Thanks

Make sure to check the weld seams. I have had 3 separate rims with pinholes in the weld bead creating a slow leak. The issues were taken care of very promptly. They all came from specialty wheels. Very pleased with their business.

My Magnums (Wheel Vintiques) are great quality and have been problem-free.

BTW,  Stockton slammed me on shipping...100.00.  So you might save a bunch ordering through Summit.
