Hood Latch Question
« on: April 15, 2007 - 04:07:02 PM »
I want to convert my 73 hood latch from an inside release to a manuel release. Will all E-body manuel latches work? I often see latches that state for 70 only??? What is the difference? Thanks for the help.

I think you can just bolt on a manual latch on to the vertical support and your good to go. I am looking for a inside hood latch with the cable. If you not going to use it and want to sell it let me know. E-Town N.J. swap meet is coming up in two weeks. I was going to look for one over there........

Not to hijack the thread, but what would it take to convert my 71 to an inside latch?

I don't know if it would work but I would be willing to trade my inside latch and the cable for your manuel. Just a thought. Why do you want to convert? I am doing the resto mod thing and did not want the cable in the engine bay.

Thanks for the offer, but I am kind of a pack rat, I hate to give/sell anything away.  If I do it, I plan to keep the old one just incase I do not like the conversion.

The main reason I am interested, is that with an inside latch, it is harder for someone I don't know to get my hood open, if/when my alarm goes off.  Just some added protection.  Kind of over protective of my stuff.

This is what it takes to convert from the outside to the inside latch;

Cable and handle assembly with mounting screws.

Cable operated hood latch.

20-30 minutes of your time.

I have had this one for a while, but most of the larger Chrysler / Dodge / Plymouth cars from 1972 on that I have seen in salvage yards have had them.

Happy hunting!
