Which disk brakes do I have.
« on: April 16, 2007 - 02:01:25 PM »
I'm away from the car and can't take it apart at this time, but I have a picture of the disk brakes on my 71 Challenger R/T, I wanted to ensure I have the a-body disk brake setup on the car.  I am 99% it is, but not 100%.  What do you guys think.

Thanks
Ryan

I've got mid 70 A-Body brakes on my front end. That definitely isn't what I have.

This may help. Its all about the swap from a-body stuff.

Mike, it should be the same from what that says about the a-body swap.

Yes, I've read through the Mopar Action disc-o-tech a few times.  The actual calipers looked similar.

The reason I ask is because I will be in need of new roters, and 70/71 stuff is very difficult to find, while the a-body disk brake swap disc rotors are not.  I also have a pair of HD 11.75" caliper adapters from a old Dippy cop car, that I was going to try to use.  Guess not now.

Thanks

Did they eliminate the anti-rattle clips on the caliper bolts in later years?

70-71 E body rotors should still be available.  They were still in production 2 years ago when I got laid off from the brake part manufacturer I worked at.  Check any Raybestos or Napa store. I have a few sets I bought when I still worked there that I was trying to sell, contact me if you are interested, I think I'm in your area.

Yeah, I work at NAPA auto parts, they don't have them, but very expensive now cause production has ceased.  I was only able to locate three in the whole US.  So we shall see, I can pick up a set of A-body disks fairly easy, get the better disk brake hardware on there and be good to go.  Or maybe I'll use some F-body HD stuff.

I had a pair out at the last 2 CMC Elmhurst swap meets and no one really seemed very interested.  Got a set on ebag right now, I guess if they don't sell I'll just stash all of the ones I have away as an investment. I wonder if they are permanently out of production or if they are just backordered while they try to get all their production up to speed in China. :puke:  I'll have to contact my old boss and find out.

I checked today at work, they are out of production for good.  And there are only 2 left in the system, and they are in California.  I'm planning on upgrading my brakes.

Can I just swap the caliper braket to the HD 11.75 one?

if you can get the larger caliper bracket you can swap to the 11.75 brakes as long as you ahve 15" wheels
