I plan on a 5.7 hemi, so wouldnt matter to me!
Actually if i remember right, here in calif before they made the law to 1975(and this is still policed to 1975-current) it was any car pre 1966 was smog exempt.Whenever you swap in a new motor in a car after the exempt years, that car MUST conform to the year of the new motor. So,you have to go to a Smog referee and show them the new engne has ALL the components that came with the car it was originally in,Ex. all sensors, cats, computor, injection ect.It was a HUGE undertaking to get all the wiring harnesses/sensors in place to pass the referee's inspections.A new crate motor would not be accepted. And in fact, even smog exempt cars, legally have to conform to the original equipment.SO if a smog referee or a cop with a chip on his shoulder wanted to make you life miserable, he could still flag your car for inspection if its obvious major modifications are made over stock. If you have a blower under your hood you could still be subject to a smog referee, even tho its technically exempt.
