7 12 hr days for 5 more weeks
« on: April 17, 2007 - 07:09:22 PM »
I havent had any time but to browse a couple of posts a night. I have to live in a motel , north of St Louis on the mighty missisipi working on the biggest cement kiln in the united states.

No kidding, the shell is 600 degrees and I'm 3-4 ft away all day. I drink 2 gallons of orange juice, grape juice and v8 juice a day. Im over 60' in the air. It's driving me nuts. I use a small 1/4 inch air hose from plant air to feel a little breeze.

Wish I was playing with my cuda instead of cooking myself to medium well.

 :sadwavey:  Miss chatting with everyone....ALAN

Just keep thinking about all the extra $$ you're making, and the toys you can buy with it.

Get yourself one of those baseball caps with a fan built into the brim to help cool off.

Here's another little trick I used to use. Freeze some 16oz bottles of water or juice and put them in your cooler. When you start to get warm, throw one of the bottles in your shirt. It will cool you down, and your body will slowly melt the ice, allowing you to sip at it. Just make sure you don't allow it to come in direct contact with one portion of your skin for a long time. I would put it between my shirt and undershirt, but you can wrap it in a rag to keep it from freezing your skin if it's too hit to wear an undershirt. It actually makes the space between your shirts act as a cooler.

Hang in there.

Seriously though, I'm sure you'll get through it, and It'll be over before you know it.

A local mill had a work policy that required frequent breaks and rehydration to prevent heat prostration when working around their dryer and press.  I think the breaks were more frequent than hourly.

Alan to bad you work 7 days a week or I would tell you about a big car show in Saint Louis this Sunday. It drew 750 cars last year and is held right at Gateway race track on the Illinois side of the river.

ahhh 9 days till my break :2thumbs:  I will be headin home and putting the barracuda through its first test ride. The car has been apart since 1975. I cant wait. When I am on hot jobs, I break whenever I want and as long as I need to.  To some extent, my office does treat me well. Just never home.

Doug, let me know how much and I will wire you the money right away :2thumbs: That will be used right away when I get home. I still need exhaust heat shields and rear bolts from the swaybar to frame mount. Then of corse a plug for the end of my fuel sending unit gauge. Mine was broken at the tank..
