Alternator Cut Off
« on: April 18, 2007 - 01:10:55 PM »
Since my battery disconnect switch cuts off power to the battey and for track requirements has to cut off the alternator as well I was thinking of running a wire from the cut off switch directly to the alternator were the factory "battery" cable would bolt onto the alternator ... is this ok and will it work ???  :burnout:

As long as the alternator is somehow connected directly to the battery, or the battery side of the kill switch, it will work. It cannot be anywhere after that kill switch for run-on purposes after its been switched. (as in if its still factory, you'll have to take the factory output BEFORE it hits the bulkhead connector, run it to the battery side of the switch, have another wire leaving the other side of the switch and back to where the factory wire hits the bulkhead and spreads off)

uh...you just confused the heck out of me... why would you have it on the battery side of the kill switch ??? wouldnt it still draw power from the battery even if switched to off ???

basically what you are saying is put the wire on the battery side of the kill switch and run it right to the back off the alternator where the factory wire would bolt up ???

Yes. If not, if you try and turn that switch off while the engine is running and the alternator is still giving power elsewhere besides on the battery side of the switch, it can easily keep your ignition firing. And defeating the purpose...

not haNdy , try Cole Hersee , the switch has to large terminals & 2 smaller terminals place 180* apart , any race shop should know the part to use though
