kickdown linkage adjustment

Is there a quick way to set the kickdown linkage on a 440 with a 727? I need to set the roadrunners up so I can take it for a test ride. I don't have a service  manual or I would look it up. I also figured someone probably had a faster/easier way.

hold the throttle wide open & make sure it pushes the kickdown linkage ALL the way back , also make sure the throttle is wide open & the kickdown is not limiting it , if it shifts too hard from there you can back it off a little so the linkage is not 100% back

New problem. I adjusted my kickdown and it seems like the car dons't want to shift to 3rd. Its like the kickdown is premently engaged. Is this possible? I plan on taking off the linkage and trying it that way tomarro.

That could be possible - try backing it off just a tad and see what happens.  If it's letting enough pressure in to override the governer it could keep it from shifting up.  Yes/No?  Anyone?

I kinda wish my 'Cuda HAD a kickdown...   ::)  I gotta fix that, too.   :-\

Hmmm, I thought all the automatics need a kickdown linkage in place, something to do with throttle pressure. I don't really know a whole lot 'bout trannys just what someone once told me after I fried mine having the linkage off. I'd hate to see anyone else damage theirs like I did.

I was always told that they don't last to long with out the kickdown also.

They will not last long at all without the kickdown correct................unless you have a manual valvebody,in that case ,you don't need it at all. 70challengerrt,is it late shifting to second also? If yes it is too tight,.back it off alittle. Normal is usually 1-2 shift around 20MPH,2-3 shift around 30 MPH. :burnout:

Hmm, guess I gotta fix the thing then.  I found resizeable ones on ebay - is there another, better source?

First to 2nd seems ok but it seems like it wont shift to 3rd. I am going to unhook the linkage tomarro to see if it goes to 3rd then I will hook it back up and adjust. I seen somewhere that there is a cable style kickdown for 727 trans (aftermarket) I thought it was about $30.

I need one for a 904 - that's why I think the resizeable one is a good bet.

Ok today I disconnected the kick-down. It drives the same as without. It doesn't shift to first even with the gear shift holding it down. It doesn't shift into 3rd at all. What I thought was the kick-down engaging was the car not shifting out of 2nd. Any suggestions to test what is happening or how to fix.
