 I love how they caught the district manager lying too, I wonder what McDonalds he's working at now?

Yup,I am not a fan of ANY quick lube places. They have people working there that have never touched a car before working for them and the thing that bugs me the most is .....if they do a transmission service and drop the pan(if they even drop the pan) they will just clean out the pan, even if there is evidence in the pan that something bad is going on inside the tranny,they clean it out and don't even know what they are looking at.The customer gets no warning for trouble in the future. The customer then later has an issue with the transmission,brings it to a tranny shop,we drop the pan ,the pan is clean and we have nothing to go by.The material in a tranny pan can tell you ALOT about what is going on inside of it.

The other part of that  that sucks is when they hear things like that, come to our dealership, we sell them services, and then the customer breathes down my neck every step of the way asking me what im doing 400 times.

You need a sign that says "Due to insurance regulations, customers are not allowed in the shop area"

You can bet a lot of folks will fog the shop glass looking in to see what's being done!!  And who would blame them with scams like this going on.  It a shame business like this will now give reputable shops a hard way to go.    I just hope Jiffy Lube gets a good house cleaning (flushing)

That's why no one touches my cars unless I'm watching.

I learned this a long time ago when I was in highschool.  A friend in the autoshop had his family car, a '73 Charger, brought in to Midas to have all 4 wheel cylinders changed.  After the work was done, we brought his car in the shop and none of the wheel cylinders were changed but he was charger for it. 

Anther time I dropped off my wife's car to have an inspection sticker done, and after a week or so I realized that they swapped my good lugnuts for crappy ones. 

When I used to work for Acura of Boston, one of the techs there used to keep the oil filters on the customer cars, not change thiers, and use the new filters on side jobs that he would charge other people for the new filter he didn't even pay for!

But there are good mechanics out there.  You just have to be very careful!

WOW, I have always been skeptical about places like that!!!  I perfer to do my own maintaince when I have the time.

 I have a story from about ten years ago. Our business was using the Express Oil shop just down the street for basic repairs and we knew that we were paying a little extra for their quick service on brakes, water pumps etc. but it was worth it to get things handled same day. Well a '88 GMC Safari van was having issues in the rear end & they were where our employee ended up leaving it for diagnosis. They said the differential was shot & found & recommended a salvage yard piece that they would swap out for about $700.00.(seemed high to me at the time) I ask for a quote on replacing the parts with new to which they quoted $1100.00 and stated the only place they could get the parts was through the dealership and it would take several days. Sooo I called up a mechanic I knew(not known as low priced but one of the best) & ask him what he thought & if possibly there were some aftermarket parts that could be had sooner or cheaper. He called back & said he could have new Richmond Gear ring & pinion overnight from Atlanta.  Total cost was about $450.00. He has gotten a lot more of our business since.

One of the shops I used to work at contracted with the Jiffy Lube claims department. They would bring us stuff JL messed up on. Unbelieveable some of stuff that came through, blown up engines with no oil in them, etc. One of my favorites was a BMW cast aluminum oil pan with a tap broken off in the oil drain plug hole! I'd like to see who the genius was who broke an 18(!)mm tap to begin with, the 30 degree entry angle was nice too so it couldn't be repaired. Needless to say JL bought a $500 oil pan on that one...

I had Pep Boys do a front end alignment on a Jeep cherokee i put a lift kit on a few years ago.I asked them while they were there would they straighten the steering wheel( I knew it was just a tie rod end crimp sleeve adjustment.The mechanic must have though i was in idiot.He aligned the jeep and then said to straighen the steering wheel he would have to pull the steering wheel and airbag at a cost of 360.00 bucks.I told him I wanted another opinon which happen to be my buddy who is the service manager at Pep boys.Guess what?After i told my buddy what he was trying to do he sent him packing on the spot,I saw him walking to his car after he was fired.Bet he wont try that again.

Also reminds me when a friend that worked in a Toyota dealership got a car that JL worked on in the 80's. 

They were told by the customer to install a Toyota oil filter.  Toyota filters back then ( I don't know about now) had a plastic cover just on the mating surface that you were supposed to peal off.  Evidently the guy at JL screwed on the filter without removing the plastic.  I think my friend said the engine seized or something.

No oil = no good.
