shackle on rear springs
« on: April 20, 2007 - 04:52:58 PM »
I crawled under my challenger today to check out my rear springs. I have not had the car long , The ride is bad !  I am not a expert on mopars so bear with me. The rear leafs are mopar s/s. I was checking out the rear shackles they mount thru a hole it rear frame. My question is behind the shackles is a section of metal welded in on both shackles so they will not move back if spring is flexed. Is this the way it is supposed to be? It looks like to me the springs or shocks would not work like this. Would this help cause my bad ride? Is the shackle suppose to mount under the frame?  thanks Bill

AAAH,

This doesn't sound good. Can you post a pic? If not, I will crawl under mine tomorrow to let you see what I have.

Tom...Check your PMs...

blackchallenger- those brackets are not factory, and with them your suspension is imobile. Get rid of them, and I'll bet the car sags a bit after. The reear portion must be able to movve fore and aft if the front is held solid (by the front hanger/bushing) for a leaf spring to flex at all. your kidneys will thank you....

The original style shackles are still available too, I think I have a box here someplace with the part number on it.....

These are made by Flagg. Interestingly enough, the rubber bushings have the Chrysler Pentastar on them with a part number. The Flagg part number is CD400.

I have a pair available right now and I will try and find the contact info for the place I got these from a couple years ago.
