16's or 17's
« on: October 31, 2003 - 03:09:37 PM »
As all of you have read I like to drive fast, but safety is first. This why I'm upgrading my suspension and brakes.
I have 245/60/15's.
What is the best ultra highperformance tires I can use?
Should I go 16 or 17? :-\
I'm thinking 50 profile, but I'm open to suggestions...just don't want to bend a rim or blow a tire. :o
I am using .960 torsion bars, hemi leaf springs, and kyb shocks.

Well if you wanted my opinion..........16" and 17" wheels belong on motorcycles and rice, not old Mopars. :o

If you really need something bigger, I wouldn't go any larger than 16", but I would rather go for something along the 275/45-15 instead.

Keep in mind this is only my opinion, I guess I'm from the old school. ;)

Wow, I love how quickly moparheads respond 8)
Keep it coming!
Aren't the stock rims 15x7? Wouldn't I need to go to 15x8 for 275/45/15?

I would love to see some photos of 16's and 17's on any E-body......Pleeease ;D
Even wide 15's with a low profile.

personally say no to 14's tire selection sucks

I just got a new set of 15" 2-7" 2-8"   American Racing 136a
Im planning on BFG  275 50-60 15 and something like 235 60 15    have not decided on what series yet.

Check out tire first, and rims sizes/prices before you purchase.

Some of the more expensive high speed tires are not avalible in 15's so check out what tires you want first.

I would go with 15" personally

Good Luck

The Best tires are the Z rated tires like Good Years F1 ?? directional; or the Pirelli P Zero , most tire companies have tires with the Z rating for top handling & traction , but they are expensive & don`t last long usually
Th BFG are one of the worst & cheapest tires made , I would look at Coopers , Dunlops, Good Year ST, Hankooks before the bfg

Any pics? Is he happy with 17's? Are 17x7 or 17x8?
American racing has them in 16x7, dont see 16x8.

I am running 17x9 all the way around.
Backspacing:  4 7/8 Front, 5 1/4 Rear
Tires: 245 45 17 Front, 285 40 17 Rear
The car handles grear with this set-up.
If you go with 16" be prepared to not have any wide tires on the rear since there are not many tire manufactures making wide 16" tires.

Your right about finding good and wide 16's :(
I was thinking of the new Khumo ecsta mx with 245/45/17 front, 275/40/17 back :-\
Are the back tires same height as front?
Can you post a pic of perfect side view?
Who makes your rims?
Isn't 17x8 good enough in front and 17x8.5 in back?
