Thanks 472, sounds like you've got a nice ride yourself. If I were doing a Charger up a 472+ would have to be the choice. Extra power to make up for the extra weight. Sounds nice and thanks for the kudos.

UPDATE:

Oh, oh.....maybe it is the 528ci. :smilielol:

After talking to Tim Banning and Ray Bartons shops, both agreed without hesitation that the 426 does have a bad lack of torque down low, quite bad actually. I asked them if building it to 500-550hp would help and both immediately said no. They were two different phone calls yet their responses were identical and like they were in the same room. That is not a good sign and shows it's definitely true, these guys know their engines.

I was told a 472ci is what people in my situation would go for but I'm not too keen on "sitting on the fence". They get better power down low over the 426ci while not being overly wild. I asked what kind of power the 528ci could be built to make to "lower" the horse power, well, not lower but keep it simple and very mild. He said 600hp+ and that it was just the nature of the engine. So, I may end up getting a 528ci built to around 600-615hp. Which, at the end of the day is "only" 50hp+ over the 426ci build I was looking at doing. The Keisler is rated at 650hp so it is still below it's rating which is great. I'll be getting the aluminium block and EFI. I'm getting two quotes, one from Barton and one from Banning. I was told that the aluminium is perfect for my situation as it makes a little less horsepower over cast iron engines, but is lighter (120-130lbs lighter). So, it'll have great torque throughout and still have the high rpm Hemi power.

So, I went around in a big circle. I feel like an ass now LOL.  :-\ I'll wait to talk directly to Tim Banning (he's on holiday). But at this stage It'll more than likely be the 528ci. What they told me I kind of knew but didn't think it was as bad as that. They did say though that the 472 sells 2 to one over any of their engines. Nice to know for you 472 owners.......

see now you are thinking like me. I am doing the same thing, i went aluminum block and stroker, with the Barton aluminum block you can stroke it to 572ci which is what i will end up doing. I would worry to much about the tranny, Unless you are going to all out race the thing. I have the same tranny in my cuda and I'm not sweating it. I am keeping it mild, however but it the 4.5 bore/4.5 stroke is a nice combo.

Hopefully my block will be here in a few weeks.

Good luck! :2thumbs:

Thanks GreenFish. :2thumbs: I will still be building the car stock. It will have either 275's with no mods or 295's on a Dana 60 with perhaps a 3/4" relocation kit. The rest of the car will be stock except the XV stiffening kit and torqueboxes.

The 528ci I am building is very, very mild. Basically as stock as a 528ci can be is what I am wanting. Around the 600-615hp mark. If it's lower, no dramas. My 73 will be the all out car. Though, if I for some reason find the 600hp not enough the 528ci is ready and willing to get more hp, cheap (for the results). I just want a car I can use to it's full potential. 750hp (over 130-140hp more than I'm building for) is too much IMO, at least this way I can still drive it fully without "as" much of a concern. Looking forward to getting the quotes so I can get the build started. I guess at the end of the day no one will know what it is by looking at the car, no decals or anything as it's simply a "HEMICUDA". So why not get some cubes....

Tim Banning is 3 months behind schedule and ETA for his engines are 10-12 months. Bartons are 5 months from time of order. I'll be waiting for Tim and get him to build mine. Can't wait!!! I just wish I knew someone with a 528ci + Manual trans car locally so I can sit in and feel it before hand but, thems the breaks. Suck it up sissy.

I agree on the stock looking. I am planning on a stock look, steel wheels with dog dish hub caps. My car is limelight so ill keep that color. Black wrinkle valve covers and the whole thing painted orange to look stock. maybe even go with the FBO distributor and ditch the MSD to keep a more stock look.

I'll swap my 8 3/4 for a dana but not relocating anything.  I have 275-60's now and they look mean, but maybe to big. I may go down a size.

Too big? How is traction thus far with your 275/60s on the street? Pretty decent?
Obviously you can smoke them up if you want to, a 318 can smoke them up if you want too. :icon16:

NZ,

My challenger is in the hands of Custom-Musclecars.com; Brandon, the owner, has the Indy 528 Hemi in his Cuda (for sale on Ebay - $265K)

he feels this is the perfect set-up for his pro-touring vehicle;  I suggest giving him an email

i am going to his shop this Friday morning - i can tell him you may be dropping him an email
