70 or 71 Cuda Deck Lid?
« on: April 25, 2007 - 07:57:38 AM »
Was hoping for a little help?  I've heard there is a difference between the two lids.  Is this for a 70 or 71 and why?  Thanks in advance!

I believe the differences lie in the under bracing.  Some deck lids in 70 and 71 have cut outs in both rear corners to accommodate the rear spoiler brackets.  This one has one of the cut outs.  As to exactly the difference between 72-74 and the 70-71 deck lids that don't have both cut outs, I can't tell you.  I am sure it still lies in the under bracing.  Someone here will know.

I think that might be a '72+ trunk lid.

That lid has neither provisions for the AAR spoiler or Go-Wing/Gull-Wings.

Also, I can't tell what the cut out on the left side is for and why it's only on the left side and not on the right.

The cutout in the middle is for the trunk light.

They will all work on any year won't they?  I think I have a very cheap repop lid on my '71, but I know where I can get one off of a '73.

They will all fit any year. The only difference is the underbracing for bolt on options according to which year.

After mucho research this is what I found and thought I'd share.  Feel free to correct or add if you'd like.

pic 1 - Early 70 lid, no cutouts for wing or spoiler (SPD for this car is
          10/69)
pic 2 - Mid 70 lid, wing cutouts added, est begining mid-October
(SPD for friends car is 02/70 and Govier says needs this lid)
pic 3 - Late 70 lid, AAR spoiler cutouts added, est begining mid-          March
pic 4 - Late 70 lid with wing attached
pic 5 - 1971 lid, note different wing cutouts, the 71 wing is different
          than the 70 wing.
pic 6 - 1971 lid with wing attached
pic 7 - 1972-1974 lid, not much info on these but guessing they are
          all the same.

Maybe this will help someone else's resto.  Thanks again for the pics Fisn!  It'd be nice if the pics could be archived too.  Got 'em on the desktop if someone needs them down the road.

Awesome 2TAGS,
I knew there were a few other styles just didn't have any on hand. The one throwing me off is the 71 lid. I know the wing and mounts were different, but in my pic #2, I took this off an early original 71 Barracuda. (Note: the car had alot of 70 items. Such as seatbelts, mirrors, and afew other oddities.) Notice it still has releaf holes for the AAR spoiler...Very interesting.
