thicker head gaskets

I want to try to bring my compression down a little.  I've heard that thicker head gaskets will get you -.4 to -.5 compression.  Any negative effects?

what motor? What heads?

You can also go with a larger bore gasket.

For example, I used FelPro 17059's instead of 1009's on an e-headed 440. Mainly because I'd heard how the 1009's tended to overhang the chamfer on the bore.
The 17059's are a larger bore and will last longer with no overhang but they will also reduce my CR.

the gasket can be more prone to failure , Cometic offers gaskets up to .085 -.090 thick & they will not fail
