440 Victor head
« on: April 27, 2007 - 01:21:59 AM »
Well after a lot of problems the engines is running
First the availability of the heads ,waited 6 months to get them
then they are designed for a rocker Mopar is not producing so we had to buy intake rockers from hughes $300
then the pedestals & spacers were not correct so we had to have them CNC machined [fabricated] to the correct widths $250
I then bolted the heads to the block only to find the pushrods will not clear the heads so off come the heads & approx 5 hrs is wasted opening up the pushrod holes to allow the pushrods to clear the heads
Then I bolt in the Eddy valley tray , this part is Made by Eddy for the Eddy Victor heads & none of the bolt holes into the heads line up so more time wasted
I then have to have custom pushrods made in 2 different lengths , 1 length for intake & different [shorter] for exhaust , I carefully measured & cut the pushrods  but had to have them pressed together so another 4 hrs + $150 in costs
So ultimatly the Cheap Eddy heads do not work out as being very cheap once you add on the $700 in extra parts & 10 hrs of labor to make them work
Be warned this are NOT a bolt on head & Indy should be cheaper with a proven parts package to go with the heads

the rest of the build is a production 440 block balanced& built with custom pistons , 10.6: compression , Comp custom .620 lift roller cam , gear drive , Eddy RPM intake with 950 Holley Hp carb , Hooker 1 7/8" headers ,  Mezeire Water pump , Alum Rad , twin electric fans with 3600 CFM , fluid damper , March Serp pulleys
the engine will be dynoed as is & as soon as we have some #s from it it will be converted to EFI

Thx for the info chyrco! I was skepticle about those heads!!! I'm definately going the Indy EZ route! Also when you post the HP numbers is that for stock out of the box head.....no port work!  :burnout:

You should have a dyno poll! My guess is 615HP (unported)

the heads are stock sized but ported to align & clean the flow , so they are better than stock but not taken up to Max wedge size which is possible with these heads

Hopefully this isn't a redundant question, but were the headers a standard (off the shelf) item or are the exhaust ports different enough to require custom stuff? I have been looking at these heads, but there still isn't a whole lot of information on them (that I have found anyway) Almost sounds like Edelbrock didn't finish the fine tuning before releasing these heads. You would think pushrod holes would be sized correctly, that just seems like oversight. will be interested to see the results....

If they've missed that much stuff, then man oh man, sounds like they should've spent a little more time looking into the clearances of things rather than advertisements. Anyway, imo Edelbrock doesn't seem to be all that concerned about Mopar versus say Ford and Chevy  :swear:. But anyway, thanks for the info Chryco and keep us informed as you always do man, thanks in advanced for the #'s.

I guess I should add that to the total extra costs , now way will normal headers fit , the exhaust ports are raised enough to need a raised port header like the TTI  , this car has Hooker super comps, but they got hammer up badly to get them in, not my desicion
The Pushrod holes wer sized correctly , but positioned Wrong , I had to cut 1/4" into the deck to get the pushrods past the head , even a magazine article I read on these heads last month didn`t mention the need to do this But the picture clearly showed the same notch into the deck I had to cut
As I have typically found Eddy  does maybe 1/2 the required R&D needed & leaves the rest to the installer , Eddy spends their budget on advertising not R&D or Quality

Sucks to have to do the RnD for a company, reminds me of NZ's gear vendors setup and my march pulley problems. I'm still interested to see the results though.

That has been my opinion for years of virtually every product eddy makes , I haven`t tried their shocks yet though

due to set backs on the customers end the car si running but has not been dynoed yet , personally I would spend a few extra $$ up front & get the Indys & save yourself a bunch of $$ in the long run

Well My customer has backed off & the car has been running for 5 months or so but due to his business relocation he has never had the car dynoed due to a lack of time . So I have installled the complete EFI system & should have it running shortly , the hold up is the March pulleys that do not fit & have terrible quality so I am having pulleys made , as soon as we have them the car will be fired up on EFI
this is totally disapointing as I really wanted to compare the power Carburated to EFI

I agree, would have been interesting to see the #'s and what the diff would've been.

I am very disappointed I was npt able to do the comparison before & after but it is not my car , I would have even been willing to pay for the dyno time but stealing the car could have caused a problem  :faint:
