We found "How to Rebuild Big-Block Mopar Engines" very helpful.  It goes through a 383 and has lots of pictures.  It is available through Amazon--search "big-block mopar engines."

the cam needs to be properly coated with special lube when installed but is broken in during the first few minutes of run time

:iagree:with CP. And get your engine up to at least 2000RPM for at least 15-20 minutes to fling lots of oil around,  float the valves somewhat and get the lobes run in properly. Myself - I will be running the Indy setup for initial start with the inner springs removed. We will use compressed air to replace the inner springs after the first start.

I can't exactly help you moparnut, but I'm looking to start the exact same project, so maybe we can bounce some ideas back and forth down the road.

Have you started collecting your parts yet?  What are your plans?

I just ordered this book on Amazon.  $15.90 for New from a third-party seller, shipped.  Not a bad investment if you ask me.
