lightening bumper brackets

what have you done to the brackets to lighten them up for racing?

I can't believe you would save more then 2 pounds by cutting up the brackets.

I don't know how much you could save by drilling holes, either....... but for reference on my 72 Cuda the front bumper brackets and bolts weighed 15 lbs.  That was the same amount as the entire front bumper!!!

Make some aluminum brackets... and glass bumpers.

You need to take weight off in the correct places to put your center of gravity where it needs to be.  If you just go lightening things the car could respond worse after weight removal than before.  For instance use the stock bumper and brackets in the rear and alluminum brackets with a glass bumper in the front.

I don't know of any you can buy.  I think you'll just have to make them.

I liek a steel bumper. My Cuda has no outer braces, and the inner braces are filled with 2-3" holes. I use a bumper bolt and nut on the empty holes. It looks stock. Any weight off the nose will help. It's a great place to "lighten the load".

Black 71, what are your goals with the car? Do you want to lighten it without altering it in a permanent way? Or do you want to go all out race?

I am not wanting an all-out race car, i am building a 543 and that is a lot of motor for a street car, especially with 12.5:1 Comp.....but I do want to be able to take the car out on the street occasionally.....

Taking weight off a car never hurts its performance regardless of where it comes off from. Simple physics agree with this. It is also easier to find 100 places to loose one pound than it is to find one place to loose 100 pounds.
